Josiah Thompson
Author of Six Seconds in Dallas
to speak at NID 2013

Josiah "Tink" Thompson is best known for his enormously influential 1967 book Six Seconds in Dallas: A Micro-Study of the Kennedy Assassination. Thompson's book is a classic reference work and was used by the House Select Committee on Assassinations. Out of print and much coveted by researchers and collectors, Six Seconds in Dallas offered plausible alternatives to the Warren Commission scenario for early researchers. A blueprint for a comprehensive investigation and scientific analysis of a murder,  Six Seconds in Dallas: A Micro-Study of the Kennedy Assassination focuses on the six seconds between the first and last shots that murdered President Kennedy.

Educated at Yale, Josiah Thompson received his Ph.D. in philosophy in 1964. In between studies, he spent a couple of years in the Navy with Underwater Demolition Team 21. He taught at Yale and then Haverford College outside Philadelphia and rose to the rank of Professor of Philosophy.

Thompson is the author of several books on philosophy including Kierkegaard, The Lonely Labyrinth: Kierkegaard's Pseudonymous Works and Kierkegaard: a collection of critical essays.

In 1976, Thompson resigned his tenured professorship to work as a private investigator in northern California, starting an investigation firm in 1979.

Thompson has participated in several high profile cases including  Black Panther Huey Newton on assault and murder charges,  William and Emily Harris in the Patty Hearst kidnapping,  Timothy McVeigh in the Oklahoma bombing trial and investigating the bombing of environmental activists Judi Bari and Darryl Cherney.

In 1988, Thompson published Gumshoe: Reflections in a Private Eye, an account of his life as a private-eye.
