JFK's Foreign Policy
Jim DiEugenio
John F. Kennedy became interested in the issues of war and peace as a young man. The responsibility of being president and a world leader in a nuclear age was not lost on him.

"Domestic policy," Kennedy often said, "can only defeat us; foreign policy can kill us."

Kennedy believed it was essential to prevent another war because there could be no winners in a nuclear war. In 1963, it appeared President Kennedy was taking initiatives to end the Cold War.

At American University on June 10, 1963 he gave a speech exemplifying the spirit of peace. Kennedy asked Americans to re-examine their attitude towards the Soviet Union by declaring:

"In the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal. We must deal with the world as it is, and not as it might have been had the history of the last 18 years been different."

Certainly we can say President Kennedy made mistakes but we can also demonstrate he raised the hopes of Americans for peace. Jim DiEugenio will be presenting information that looks at the conflicting interpretations of President John F. Kennedy's position in foreign affairs.

DiEugenio has written two books on the Kennedy assassination.  "Destiny Betrayed" (1992) was the first positive reconsideration of the Jim Garrison investigation in a generation.  "The Assassinations" (2003, co-edited with Lisa Pease) analyzed the murders of RFK, MLK, and Malcolm X, but devoted most its pages to the newly released ARRB documents in the JFK case.  He and Lisa also edited the journal Probe (1993-2000) which focused on the releases of the ARRB and new developments in the King and RFK cases.  Jim has an MA in Contemporary American History from California State University Northridge.  He was asked by Oliver Stone to do a commentary track on the expanded DVD version of his film "JFK".

Joseph Milteer
Stuart Wexler

Joseph Milteer was a segregationist, right wing extremist and political activist associated with far right racist organizations such as the National States Rights Party, Congress of Freedom and the White Citizens Council of Atlanta. Some people believe he may have been involved or had foreknowledge of the Kennedy assassination and may have fundede the King assassination.

Two weeks before the Kennedy assassination, in a recorded conversation between an informant named Somersett and Milteer, the informant stated, "I think Kennedy is coming here on the 18th or something like that to make some kind of speech."

A few moments later, the informant asked, "Are they really going to try to kill him?"

Milteer replied, "oh yeah, it is in the working."

But did Milteer really have inside knowledge of the assassination plan? And once John Kennedy was assassinated did Milteer's focus then move to Martin Luther King Jr.? In 1968, FBI files were released that support evidence of Joseph Milteer being involved in funding the assassination of Dr. King. After shooting Dr. Keene in Atlanta, James Earl Ray's escape to Canada included a 450 mile detour south to Atlanta. Association with Georgia-based Milteer may have explained that stop.

Stuart Wexler, co-author with Larry Hancock of the upcoming book, "Seeking Armageddon: the effort to kill Martin Luther King Jr." is presenting information on Milteer's connections with the assassinations. Wexler continues to look to historical documents and connections to provide information concerning Milteer's involvement with the shooting deaths of President John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King.

Wexler is a teacher of World History, AP Government at Hightstown High School, Hightstown, NJ. He has been a JFK assassination researcher for about fifteen years where he has focused on the issues connected to the chemical analysis of the ballistics material since 2000. Wexler worked on the Texas A&M University team that made world news in Neutron Activation Analysis and the FBI's bullet fragment study calling into question the validity of the evidence supporting a lone gunman theory. Their findings actually show that  evidence is fundamentally flawed.  The team's findings show the matching fragments could have come from three or more separate bullets - and more than one shooter.Wexler has spoken on the subject at JFK Lancer's NID twice, at the Wecht conference in 2003, and at the AARC conference in 2004, three of those times opposite Dr. Kenneth Rahn, NAA advocate, from the University of Rhode Island. Wexler has collaborated with chemist Tom Pinkston since approximately 2000 on the same subject matter. Wexler's other Kennedy interests focus on Oswald, his background and associates leading up to November 22nd. His book, co-authored with Larry Hancock, on the MLK assassination will be in print in spring, 2011.
