in everyday life

Simple ways to make giving back a part of your daily routine.

I'm not much for new years resolutions but I do go into each new year looking back at the past year to see where I can grow and be better as a person. One way I always find that I can do better is by giving. This doesn't necessarily mean giving money, although sometimes certain situations do call for monetary donations. I received an article in my e-mail that lays out a few ways that we can make giving back a part of our daily routine. Thought it might help you get started! And read the stats about giving after the article... I especially like the fact that it lowers stress! Let me know how I can help you this year.

"'Tis the season," is ringing in your ears as you amble down the street clutching bundles of purchases that you snatched up at the last minute for loved ones.

When you hear the jingle of the Salvation Army bell and glimpse the weary face of the volunteer in the Santa suit out of the corner of your eye, you can't help but turn your head sharply in the other direction to avoid his request for a donation.

The truth is, you're no Grinch, and you'd love to help, but after buying everyone on your list gifts and mustering the energy to go shopping after work, you're just tapped out.

If this scene is familiar, don't lose heart, say the experts. "A lot of people have the misconception that in order to give back meaningfully you have to act like Mother Teresa or Gandhi all the time," says Adam Grant, professor at Wharton and author of Give and Take: A Revolutionary Approach to Success. But that's not the case." There are numerous opportunities to give in your daily life that take little, energy or money, but still can make a meaningful impact.

I promised to ignore this Duck Dynasty saga.. But I'll make a short and sweet exception since you asked...
Helloooooooo (don't get me wrong. I am a Christian. I don't believe in gay marriages or in "gayness")
Last time I checked, Phil did not own A&E. Surely Phil expected a backlash after expressing himself so openly on an interview while on contract with a TV station owned by somebody else....
Anyway I don't have all that facts but from my meager understanding, did A & E take away Phil's freedom of speech?
I don't think so. He just put A & E in one of those "damned if you do damned if you don't  places".
Three years ago and now... Phil's take on the gay matter is the same (just like mine) but... 3 years ago he was not on the Duck Dynasty show aired by A&E (or was he?... like I said I don't watch TV)... so ...
At this point NO THE MEDIA IS NOT helping.. Talk about adding fuel to the fire... i mean if the two (Phil and A & E ) were to work it out the, the media's ability to sensationalize all BAD news will only delay the process by adding fuel to fire.
Why am I venting to you I don't know....
My final answer: Back off everyone... you are not helping... let the Robertson's and A & E work it out... I mean will
the show be the same after all this??? ( Sorry Phil I am a Christian like you but I don't watch TV so I've never watched the show). A & E you better smarten up and issue a nice statement and settle this soon or another station will absorb The Duck Dynasty and permit me to say A & E will be the looser. Phil you are 100% correct in the gay philosophy  from my point of view. I hope you guys work it out so the sensationalism can shift to something else.

Testimonial of the Week!

My interview with Dr. Alan Simberg was a wonderful experience.  He asked great questions, was knowledgeable about my work and really gave me an opportunity to talk. I am extremely grateful for his generosity in providing a platform for practitioners such as myself.
