By The Light of the Moon & Sun
Farmers are often out by the light of the moon or by the headlights of their tractors harvesting for the next day's farmers market. The longest day of the year should give the plants extra time to grow and ripen as well as giving the farmers more picking time.
Summer Solstice
The summer solstice is an instant in time which is on June 21 at precisely 1:04 a.m. EDT this year. The summer solstice occurs on the day that has the longest period of daylight.
Super Moon
The Moon will reach its closest distance to the Earth at exactly 7:32 am EDT on June 23, producing a larger and brighter than normal Supermoon. It will also be visible on June 22. |

Betsy's Baked Goods
Twelve years ago Betsy Guckeyson was
baking for friends, church groups and military friends overseas. Even though she was still teaching at Gloucester High School, she accepted the challenge to bake cookies for the WFM. Her home-based business soon became
her full time occupation.
Although the Guckeysons had retired from Ohio, both Betsy and husband Jim had too much energy to be "retired." Jim was soon helping the business grow.
At one time they baked as many as 71 items for a single market. In 2007, when Jim passed away, Betsy scaled down the baking. She now attends at least once a month while keeping in touch with the children and families whom she has befriended at the WFM.
Betsy grew up in a family that cooked together, so many of her recipes are from her grandmother and mother. She has tweaked some of the recipes to accommodate customers who have allergies or only eat gluten-free. Pre-ordering is appreciated for special or large orders.
Betsy's Baked Goods Offers:
Cookies - frosted sugar and snickerdoodles (are first to go)
Gluten free cookies
Sweet Breads Yeast Breads

Five Tips for Summer Salad Dressings
FreshFarm Markets recently posted useful tips to assist with making salad dressings for the many greens and vegetables or fruits going into summertime salads. Among the practical ideas was the suggestion to "massage" hardy greens such as kale in order to bruise them just enough to better absorb the dressing.
