What Is A Farmer To Do?

According to Lawrence Latane of Blenheim Organic Gardens in Westmoreland County this has been the worst March he can remember. The seeds he has planted aren't sprouting, while the greenhouses are full of seedlings waiting to go into the fields. Marlene McKenzie of Evergreen Springs in New Kent County echoes his concerns and laments that she doesn't have the microgreens that she anticipated by now and that the carrots are just sitting, not growing in the cold, wet soil. She will come with what she can harvest as will Shiloh Acres who anticipates bringing collards, kale

and cabbages.

Wish for sunshine to bring the farmers and their products back to the market as soon as possible.

Plants in pots are faring well. Sassafras Farm will return this Saturday with native plants and Knotts Creek will have perennials, many in bloom. The market will look like an Easter garden -  full of topiaries, potted tulips and cut pussy willow and daffodils.

 Answer to Pollen Season
from Bees N Blossoms
"Spring blooms beautifully in Virginia and we revel in the abundance of flowers and trees we have to enjoy. Along with the visual treat, nature sends an abundance of pollen which can cause sneezing and coughing problems for some folks.
Interesting, that the help we need during this time may be from the very thing causing us trouble. Ingesting small amounts of bee pollen each day can help alleviate some of those allergic reactions. Daily exposure to small amounts of pollen can help your body adjust to the irritant and cope better during the heaviest periods of exposure.  Two to four teaspoons of bee pollen each day, year round, added to your food or taken with a glass of water has proven to ease symptoms for many people.
During allergy season Bees N Blossoms offer an opportunity to try bee pollen, as a free gift of  3 oz. when you purchase any two of our dietary supplements. In a week or two you should know if bee pollen will help you. It's worth a try! Stop by our tent and we'll tell you more about the benefits of bee pollen."
