NEW VIDEO - What is Early Intervention in Virginia?

OCTOBER 2014

The Integrated Training Collaborative (ITC) coordinates Virginia's Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (CSPD) which is the professional development system for early interventionists who provide supports and services to eligible children and families under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

featureMONTHLY FEATURED TOPIC - Lifelong Learners

Fall is the time of year when days get shorter, the leaves turn colorful, and professional development opportunities abound. It seems that October is the peak month for conferences. What training opportunities peak your interest and build your capacity as a lifelong learner?

On October 14th approximately 320 early interventionists, local system managers, and staff joined together for the Early Intervention Institute. During our keynote Dr. Dathan Rush and Dr. M'Lisa Shelden discussed Uncoachable Moments? Concurrent sessions featured many Virginia providers sharing their expertise on collaboration, authentic assessment, routines-based intervention, mental health strategies and much more! To continue your learning, consider reviewing some of the handouts from concurrent sessions you may have missed on our Early Intervention Institute page.

If you are still looking for more opportunities to enhance your knowledge, take a look at the Training Calendar for conferences as well as online learning courses.

Kaleidoscope: New Perspectives in Service Coordination, Levels I and II are required professional development trainings for all new service coordinators (although all are invited!) Trainings are held twice per year in cadres (KI and KII occurring in same location, one month apart) so that service coordinators have the opportunity to learn with each other for both Kaleidoscope sessions. Spring Kaleidoscope sessions take place in the Valley region during March (KI)/April (KII). Fall Kaleidoscope sessions are scheduled in the Richmond region during September (KI)/ October (KII).

SAVE THE DATES

KII-October 29 and 30, 2014, in Glen Allen, VA.

Spring KI and KII will be scheduled and open for registration in January 2015. Click here for more details and updates.

 TALKS ON TUESDAYS

Talks on Tuesdays (ToTs) are one-hour webinars designed to provide free online training opportunities related to important topics in early intervention. Topics chosen for the Talks on Tuesdays webinar series are based on feedback from EI practitioners about what they need to know more about! ToTs are held on the first Tuesday of the month from 12:00-1:00PM.

FEATURED TOPIC, FEATURED WEBINARS

The Virginia EI Professional Development team was busy presenting at a conference during our typically scheduled first Tuesday of the month webinar for October so we did not hold our monthly ToT. What archived webinar did you watch?

PLEASE NOTE: Our November ToT, Bridges out of Poverty: How Poverty Impacts Behavior and Choices, is registered to capacity. We encourage providers to join together and access the webinar using one phone line. This will allow us to ensure that all those who registered are able to participate. Thank you for your help with this "good problem."

And plan to join us on December 2nd for our next ToT. Details and registration will be available soon.
