The Integrated Training Collaborative (ITC) coordinates Virginia's Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (CSPD) which is the professional development system for early interventionists who provide supports and services to eligible children and families under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

featureMONTHLY FEATURED TOPIC -
Families Experiencing Homelessness

According to the McKinney-Vento Homelessness Assistance Act (2002), homelessness is defined as "An individual who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, including children

and youth sharing housing due to loss of housing or economic hardship; living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to lack of alternative adequate housing; and living in emergency or transitional housing." Unfortunately, 1 out of 45 children experience homelessness and families with young children are the fastest growing subgroup (National Center on Family Homelessness, 2011).

Perhaps you are currently supporting a family who is experiencing homelessness. Check out these resources:

Kaleidoscope: New Perspectives in Service Coordination, Levels I and II are required professional development trainings for all new service coordinators (although all are invited!) Trainings are held twice per year in cadres (KI and KII occurring in same location, one month apart) so that service coordinators have the opportunity to learn with each other for both Kaleidoscope sessions. Spring Kaleidoscope sessions take place in the Valley region during March (KI)/April (KII). Fall Kaleidoscope sessions are scheduled in the Richmond region during September (KI)/ October (KII).

FALL 2014

The fall 2014 KI and KII trainings will be held in the Richmond area. Check back for details as they become available.

tot TALKS ON TUESDAYS

Talks on Tuesdays (ToTs) are one-hour webinars designed to provide free online training opportunities related to important topics in early intervention. Topics chosen for the Talks on Tuesdays webinar series are based on feedback from EI practitioners about what they need to know more about! ToTs are held on the first Tuesday of the month from 12:00-1:00PM.

Casting a Wide Net to Support Young Children Experiencing Homelessness

Plan to join us on Tuesday, June 3rd for our next ToT, "Children in Meth Labs: Home Visitor Safety," with Lt. Jason A. Robinson from the Virginia State Police.

PLEASE NOTE:

Registration slots for our ToTs frequently fill quickly HOWEVER far fewer people join the actual webinar. We'd like to request that you register only if you plan to attend so that all who are interested are able to login. Additionally, if you participate as a group, each individual does not need to register. One person can register for the group and can then share the access to the survey allowing each individual to obtain a certificate of participation. As a reminder, all ToTs are archived for your ease of access at times convenient to you. Thank you in advance for helping.
