Catherine Knickerbocker, PT

This handout offers 25 ideas for using items and activities found in natural environments to work on developmental goals instead of taking therapy materials out to the home. Link to it from the Supports & Services page.

OT, PT, SLP, and ECSE Position Statements about Providing Early Intervention

You can also link to position statements for each discipline (written by their professional organizations) on the Supports & Services page. (Go to Articles/Handouts and then to Position Statements.)

These might help with explaining evidence-based practices to new service providers and help physicians and others understand how intervention should be provided.

NOVEMBER 2013

The Integrated Training Collaborative (ITC) coordinates Virginia's Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (CSPD) which is the professional development system for early interventionists who provide supports and services to eligible children and families under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

featureMONTHLY FEATURED TOPIC -
EI Research & Evidence-Based Practices - Part 2

In recent months, we've spent a lot of time highlighting evidence-based practices in EI. The October ITC Update provided numerous resources on this topic. This month, we thought we go one step further and feature Part 2 on EI evidence-based practices that you can use in your discussions with referral sources such as doctors and with providers who may have questions about early intervention.

 kaleidoscopeKALEIDOSCOPE TRAINING:
Kaleidoscope Training graphic

Kaleidoscope: New Perspectives in Service Coordination, Levels I and II are required professional development trainings for all new service coordinators (although all are invited!) Trainings are held twice per year in cadres (KI and KII occurring in same location, one month apart) so that service coordinators have the opportunity to learn with each other for both Kaleidoscope sessions. Spring Kaleidoscope sessions take place in the Valley region during March (KI)/April (KII). Fall Kaleidoscope sessions are scheduled in the Richmond region during September (KI)/ October (KII).

SPRING 2014

Registration is now available for spring 2014 KI and KII training. Both trainings will be held at the Plecker Work Force Center at Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave.

  • KI - March 18 and 19, 2014. Click here to register.
  • KII - April 16 and 17, 2014. Click here to register.
tot TALKS ON TUESDAYS

Talks on Tuesdays (ToTs) are one-hour webinars designed to provide free online training opportunities related to important topics in early intervention. Topics chosen for the Talks on Tuesdays webinar series are based on feedback from EI practitioners about what they need to know more about! ToTs are held on the first Tuesday of the month from 12:00-1:00PM.

Join us on December 3rd for our next Talks on Tuesday on Executive Functions which will be presented by Ann Janney-Shultz. Registration will be open soon!

FEATURED TOPIC,
FEATURED WEBINAR

The November Talks on Tuesday, "I Know It, but Can't Explain It - What the Evidence Based Practices are in EI" is now archived!

Be sure to check out handout #3 for additional resources on our featured topic.

PLEASE NOTE:

Registration slots for our ToTs frequently fill quickly HOWEVER far fewer people join the actual webinar. We'd like to request that you register only if you plan to attend so that all who are interested are able to login. Additionally, if you participate as a group, each individual does not need to register. One person can register for the group and can then share the access to the survey allowing each individual to obtain a certificate of participation. As a reminder, all ToTs are archived for your ease of access at times convenient to you. Thank you in advance for helping.
