Greetings!

Just a quick update on the Community Charter School Parent/Teacher Committee.

Who We Are

This committee is the parent group designed to facilitate volunteerism and fundraising at Community Charter School. CCS strongly encourages parents to volunteer. No parent is legally obligated to make any contribution to the school. However, we ask parents to understand that our unique programming is only able to continue through the generous contributions of time and money from parents and community members interested in advancing individualized, experiential, arts-integrated education. Parents who take advantage of the opportunities this school offers need to know that without their donations of time and money, this school will struggle to meet its goals.

What We Are Working on Right Now

The CCS PTC is working on Teacher Appreciation gifts and a catered lunch. Teaching young children is HARD WORK. The PTC wants to acknowledge the great work the CCS staff has done this year by treating them to a meal (from Common Market, where else?) and a token of our appreciation. The lunch is planned for June 4th from 11:30-2:00 at CCSIf you want to volunteer to set up and serve the lunch, contact Alexis Frisinger

The Garden Club will be working on a staff gift. The garden club meeting will be on Thursday, May 23rd from 2:30-3:30 to arrange flowersFlower delivery will tentatively be at 9 AM on Friday, May 24th. If you want to help arrange or deliver flowers (sssshhhh, don't tell the teachers, it's a surprise!) , contact Meredith Angel

We are planning next year's slate of after school enrichment activities. It is our goal to offer a wide variety of low cost activities for the children who attend this school. This means lots and lots of volunteers if we want to keep costs down! To see the list of existing activities, go to the school website and click Programs at the top. We have also added Guitar this year from Music 4 Life. Next year we hope to add a Games Club for younger kids, a Fitness Club for all ages and a Book Club for our voracious readers. We would also love to have Cub Scouts, Chess, Science and/or Math Olympiad. Finally, we are looking for a new lead volunteer for Lego Club since the current volunteer's kids will be graduating soon. If you have a special skill you would like to share with the children at the school or would like to volunteer for any of the existing clubs, contact Aubrae Collins. I repeat, the only way we can offer clubs and activities at a low cost is if parents pitch in!

We are working on a calendar of events for next year, including a small spirit wear fundraiser and face painting at our Back to School events. We could use some more volunteers for these activities which take place in mid-July and at the end of August.

Lastly we are working on Ms. Maureen's retirement gift. Sadly for us, this will be Maureen Robert's last year at CCS. Ms. Maureen has been with the school from the beginning and means so much to our children. We hope to show her some appreciation to remember us by!

Donate

We need financial donations for the Teacher Appreciation gifts and lunch and also for Ms. Maureen's retirement gift. Please consider dropping a donation by the main office. Just put it in an envelope that says Attn: PTC with your name and contact info included. Thanks ahead for your generosity!

Join Us!

PTC meets the last Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM. Our next meeting is Thursday, April 25th. We would love to meet you so please stop by! Parents are very welcome, but so are grandparents, alumni and community members who are committed to the CCS mission.

If you are unable to make it to the meeting, there are still many opportunities for involvement in the school community. The PTC has been meeting regularly since February. We have split into smaller committees to facilitate the delegation of tasks. If you have a particular interest or skill that will fit in with any of these groups, feel free to contact the committee chair directly and we will get you added to the workgroup. If you want to be added to the volunteer list but don't have a specific interest, contact PTC President Page Lee.
