Prescription drug abuse by teens up sharply: study

When teens were asked about the last substance abuse conversation they had with their parents, just 14 percent said they talked about abusing a prescription drug, said the report released Tuesday by The Partnership at Drugfree.org.

 

Bump Seen in Substance Abuse Treatment During Pregnancy

There was a slight rise in the percentage of pregnant women entering substance abuse treatment programs between 2000 and 2010 in the United States. But the number of those entering treatment for alcohol use declined during that time, according to a federal government report.

Alcoholism and PTSD Can be Safely Treated Together, Study Finds  Alcoholism and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be safely treated together, a new study concludes. The study addresses concerns that treating PTSD could worsen alcoholism by bringing up painful memories, Reuters reports

The NCRG unveiled The Discovery Project last month. Located on the NCRG website, The Discovery Project is an easy-to-use online library for finding the latest science-based information on gambling disorders and responsible gaming. It synthesizes the NCRG's numerous resources-including videos, guidebooks, brochures and condensed information on research studies-and allows users to search for information by date, keyword, topic or content type.  
 

Computerized models can spot and warn people with high risk profiles similar to the way geneticists have invented tests to predict cancer risk.

 

Survey: Gambling could affect 26 percent of Kansans

A survey says up to 9 percent of Kansans are at risk of developing a gambling problem and that 26 percent of the state's residents could be affected by the uncontrolled gambling of a relative or friend.

 

New website, QR app for problem gamblers by Responsible Gaming Education Week group 

A new Quick Response code for smartphone and tablet users needing help with problem gambling has been developed by a coalition of professionals from the gaming and behavioral health industries. The QR code helps users download an app linking them to a new website
