The Marine Corps' ever existing alcohol abuse issue is slowly improving, and the Corps is taking steps to help prevent alcohol related incidents all together.
 
Dr. Gary Hemann was presented with the of the Physician's Innovation, Determination and Excellence in Action to reduce substance abuse award.
 
Random drug testing of middle-school students may help prevent substance abuse, a six-year study of New Jersey students suggests.
 
Suboxone (buprenorphine and naloxone), used to treat opioid dependence, will no longer be available in tablet form starting in March, because of the risk of children becoming poisoned after swallowing the drug. The company has switched to making a film version of the medication, which is put under the tongue.

From "Pathological Gambling" to "Gambling Disorder:" 

Changes in the DSM-5    April 24th, 1-2pm CST. One of the most anticipated events in the mental health field is the publication of the fifth edition of the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) in May 2013. Many of the changes have caused great debate and "Pathological Gambling" is no exception with substantial changes in classification, name of the disorder and number of symptoms required for a diagnosis. Are we ready for these changes? Registration available soon!
