Hurricane Sandy Pushes Back Deadline for Sioux City Casino Applications
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has pushed by the deadline for interested casino operators and their nonprofit partners to submit applications for a land-based casino in Sioux City, IA.  Hurricane Sandy is the reason for the delay.  Originally, applications were to be turned in to the IRGC's Des Moines office by 2pm on November 1st.  The commission has now pushed the deadline back to November 5th.

Based on a literature review, consensus discussions, and a field review, the Action Committee developed a series of findings, conclusions and recommendations regarding the therapeutic value of smoked marijuana and the role of physicians in the prescribing of marijuana for medicinal purposes.

Marijuana: Science and Strategies for Community Coalitions   Thursday, November 15, 2012  3:00-4:30 p.m. EST
The presentation will also clearly define the differences between medical marijuana, decriminalization and legalization and describe their impact on communities. Participants will also learn why community coalitions should care about marijuana use and engage their communities to address the marijuana issue, particularly around formulating messages and developing other effective strategies.
