"I Believe in Love"
An Evening with the Gentle Giant
Tapping his camel colored boot ever so thoughtfully, Don Williams' velvety baritone intimately envelops you like the warmth of a well-worn blanket on a wintry night. As his unassuming manner draws the audience ever closer, they sit quietly hypnotized as every lyric is slowly and deftly articulated. The feeling is if each genteel note he shares is a profound offering. "I believe in love . . , I believe in babies . . , I believe in mom and dad . . , and I believe in you." If you weren't a believer in everlasting love before, by the end of this 'gentle giant's' performance, you will be.
Mr. Williams is a man of few words in between ballads. His voice is deep and his words escape slowly. His unhurried performance commands thoughtful respect. Williams' songs are timeless and inspirational. The mere words of which, have never lost their effectiveness to captivate the human spirit or tug at the heart.
When a person is extremely gifted, I'm always curious as to what has molded them into who they are. Are they thankful for their gift; do they acknowledge from whence it came? The temperance and lyrics of Mr. Williams' songs, tell his story on their own.
The song 'Good Old Boys Like Me,' paints an image of a young Don Williams. "Nothing makes a sound in the night like the wind does, but you ain't afraid if you're washed in the blood like I was."
Songs like, "I've been loved by the best, I can't settle now for less, why bother with the rest, baby. I've been to the top I guess, with you I have been blessed, I won't take nothin' less, I've been loved by the best."
