Tech Tip: Using the N-8000AF as a stand-alone Timer/Bell Schedule
By Josh Srago, CTS Timers and Bell Schedule generators are a pretty common occurrence in today's PA solutions. When you hear Bell Schedule you tend to automatically think of schools, but what does the term Timer bring to mind? Messages for a factory, airport, retail location, or train station perhaps? These are all applications where a trigger is used to generate a pre-recorded message to broadcast to a population.
Previously it may have been said that the N-8000AF Audio Interface could only be used when in conjunction with a full N-8000 System Solution. But no more!! There is a way to use the N-8000AF as a stand-alone timer, or when used with a 2nd N-8000AF it can be the Bell Tone Generator for a school scenario.
The N-8000AF can be used to generate 5 internal tones which would then broadcast across a network switch to a 2nd N-8000AF device providing an analog audio output to your PA system. However, it can also provide contact outputs based on a schedule to trigger 4 separate external sources. With 64 events available per schedule and up to 16 different schedules to be programmed, the possibilities are near limitless. So how do you manage this feat? When using the GUI programming for the N-8000 system a Master Station is required for each system. The trick is to program the software as though there were an IP Master station in the system, but when performing the upload don't send the file to all devices, just select the N-8000AF(s). This will cause the N-8000AF unit(s) to believe that there is a master station on the system even when there is not.

Product Spotlight: 900MkII Series Mixer-Amplifiers
In a world full of Digital Signal Processors, sometimes the best solutions are the simplest. When it comes to providing a client with the simplest, most cost-effective and reliable solution, analog is often still the most viable choice. After years of research into the needs of AV installers, TOA engineers labored to produce the world's finest commercial integrated mixer/amplifier. The result was the TOA 900 SERIES. After years of successful use, TOA further refined the 900 Series and introduced the 900MkII Series. Designed for reliability, versatility and performance, the 900MkII provides operation for many paging and music distribution applications. It has seen wide-spread use in retail spaces, factories, airports, restaurants, hospitals, and various other commercial and industrial venues. Not surprisingly, over 30 years after its initial introduction, many 900 Series units are still on the job today, which is why it's widely recognized as the industry standard in installed sound system amplification.
There are three 900MkII models to choose from, depending on your power needs: A-903MK2 (30 W), A-906MK2 (60 W) and A-912MK2 (120 W). These can provide transformer isolated output at 25V, 70V and 4 Ohms to suit various speaker types. It also comes in mixer-only (non-powered) version- M-900MkII.
The 900MkII Series modular design has made it one of the most sought after (and often copied) amplifier solutions ever offered. Eight module slots allow you to easily configure custom configurations choosing from over fifty TOA plug-in modules with an extensive array of features and connector types. This makes it easy to install a system with just the right compliment of inputs, potentially growing as your needs grow. TOA also offers special function modules such as chime/tone, message & speaker equalizers. You can even expand the input capacity by connecting a second mixer or mixer/amplifier to the rear-panel Bridge In/Out jack.
Multiple paging priorities (such as Emergency Page>General Page>Background Music) are easily configured using optional mute-type modules activated by external switch-closure or mute-send modules. Addition of external processing (such as graphic EQ or Compressor) is possible via the Pre-Out/Power-In jacks. Of course, the 900 Series Mixer/Amplifiers are UL and cUL Listed and carry the TOA five year warranty.
