NOVEMBER 2012
TOA Survives Hurricane Sandy
sandy Due to the destruction brought by Hurricane Sandy this week to the NY & NJ area, TOA's Secaucus, NJ offices were without power and were closed from Monday, October 29th through Wednesday, October 31st.  As of Thursday, November 1st, power has been restored and we are once again open and available to serve our customer's needs. We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused, though this has not significantly impacted on our ability to process orders from our central warehouse. Our west coast (Burlingame, CA) office staff has worked hard to handle the overflow during this event.  We are also glad to report that all NJ TEI personnel are well, though power is still out in many areas and will not be restored for some time. Travel in the NY/NJ area is still very difficult due to road closures from flooding, downed trees and power lines.  Communication is also unavailable in many areas. The effects on NY/NJ area businesses and families have been devastating to say the least.  Our heartfelt concern also goes out to all our customers and their families who have been affected by this storm. We hope everyone is safe and sound and can look forward to recovering from this catastrophe as soon as possible. The Red Cross is still looking for volunteers for shelters for displaced residents and you are never too far away to help. October Show Wrap-Up
GreatLakes TOA was an exhibitor at the 2012 Great Lakes A/V Expo is sponsored by AVCOM, Inc., C. L. Pugh and Associates, Inc., and the manufacturers they represent on October 24th and 25th at the Crowne Plaza Cleveland Airport.  Here we had an opportunity to display our new IR Classroom System, SR-S Slim Line array speakers, 9000M2 Digital Mixer, BGM Amplifiers, and our new AV-20D Micro Amplifier. There were several working tabletop exhibits, a live audio demo room, and training sessions that offered CTS certification. Turnout was fantastic. If you missed it this year, look for it again in 2013.

NJSBAbooth TOA was also on the east coast at the same time, exhibiting at the NJSBA Partners in Student Success Workshop on October 23-25, 2012 at the Atlantic City Convention Center. Education leaders, businesses, non-profits, educators and communities all came together to ensure a successful future for the children of New Jersey. TOA had on display our new IR Classroom System, N-8000 Intercom System, new AV-20D Micro Amplifier, new PC-580R Economy Ceiling Speaker, and the new Q-RM9012 Paging Mic.

Tech Tip: Increasing Wireless Coverage

We've all experienced wireless microphone drop out.  The production is moving along swimmingly and then suddenly without warning, audio is gone.  With the UHF frequency coordination issues that we face today, proper planning ahead is a key element to ensure that drop outs are prevented.  So what do you do when you still experience drop outs after picking the correct frequencies and devices for your application?  It's time to look to your antennas.

YW-4500_small When pairing the WD-4800 Antenna Distributor with the YW-4500 remote powered antennas you can not only save on rack outlets with the power distribution available in the WD-4800, but you can also take advantage of the 2 parallel antenna inputs.  This allows for the connection of up to 4 remote powered antennas for the best possible coverage throughout a given performance area by getting making sure that at any given time there is line of sight from the transmitter to an antenna.

For those applications where your equipment might be hidden away in a rack far from the performance space, have no fear.  Using RG-6 cabling you can extend the YW-4500 antennas up to 115 ft, or with RG-11 up to 165 ft.

For more information on how to best configure you TOA UHF Wireless Microphone equipment, contact the TOA Product Support Group at 800-733-4748 from 8 am to 8 pm EST.
