Taking Issue

My Facebook newsfeed makes me want to throw my smartphone across the room. No, it's not the creepy ads that somehow know I've been online shopping for navy blue curtains. No, it's not the eternal invitations to play CandyCrush Saga. It's not even the posts from the people who I went to high school with, or the entirely non sequitur comments from older relatives that read something like, "LOVE YOU RAN INTO YOUR MOM THE OTHER DAY AT THE GROCERY STORE!!!!!"

 

Nope. Those, for some reason, are tolerable.

Ashes to Go
Is your congregation participating in Ashes to Go? Each year, churches visit Metro stations, train stations, and other public places to share ashes and prayers with passersby. Let us know when and where you will be on February 18.

Parish Events

Ebola Relief Effort
The Sierra Leone Episcopal/Anglican Community Ministry is collecting food items, toiletries, and other essentials through February 28 to support ebola relief efforts in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Items can be dropped off at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Aspen Hill. A list of suggested items is available on the website.

February 8
10am: St. Mary's, Foggy Bottom hosts Dr. Gwendolyn Mikel, Professor of Anthropology and Foreign Service at Georgetown University, in celebration of Black History Month

2pm: St. Columba's hosts The Mighty Flentrop, an organ concert featuring music from Germany, Spain, France, and the United States

4:30pm: St. Anne's, Damascus hosts the Ben Redwine Jazz Trio

5pm: Church of the Redeemer, Bethesda hosts an old-fashioned evening at the movies, featuring two silent films accompanied by internationally acclaimed theater organist Jonathan Ortloff

February 9
10am: Shalem Institute hosts a Nurturing Day for Clergy led by Carole Crumley

February 14
6pm: Church of the Ascension, Silver Spring hosts its annual dinner and auction. Tickets sold at the door.
