Dear Friend,
Happy Thanksgiving! Bishop Mariann offers a prayer for Thanksgiving in her blog this week. As the church year comes to a close, we start to look to Advent, with many parish events planned in December. This week, we also wanted to share a look at what is going on in the church around the world and the nation. Enjoy your holiday with friends and family and travel safely! |

Discoveries and Discernment: How Are We Called to Connect Right Here? by Lesley Krauland, a parishioner at St. Patrick's and a member of the Diocesan Retreat Committee
My sister pleaded, "Come on, Les, come to my birthday party at The Black Cat!" So, I left rural Maryland around 8 p.m. and drove into the heart and soul of D.C. The Black Cat is a nightclub in a formerly gritty neighborhood that has experienced a transformation, becoming a hot spot of restaurants, culture, and nightlife. News from the Diocese
Formation of Diocesan Worship and Music Commission Bishop Mariann invites those interested in serving on a newly-formed Diocesan Commission to contact her. The Commission will assist the Bishop to plan and execute diocesan worship and to provide creative liturgical resources to congregations. She is particularly interested in liturgical innovation, augmenting the traditional resources of the Book of Common Prayer with worship that reflects the diversity and creativity of our diocese. The Commission will be flexible, nimble (using technology to communicate and plan), and fun. Those wishing to apply, please send letter of interest and brief description of liturgical/musical background to Keely Thrall at kthrall@edow.org
2012 Bishop's Appeal: Double the value of your gift
There is no better time than now to give to the Bishop's Appeal. An anonymous donor has issued a challenge grant: The anonymous donor will match all contributions to the Bishop's Appeal between now and December 31-up to a total of $30,000. This means that each contribution to the Bishop's Appeal received before the end of the year will be effectively doubled. To donate now, visit the website
Volunteer at Church House
The staff of Church House depend on the generous service of volunteer Receptionists throughout the week. They are an integral part of the Church House team. Receptionists provide a warm welcome, offer hospitality, assist with routine clerical work and research. Special project support is another important part of their work. We seek individuals who are available on Thursdays or Fridays and who have 4 - 6 hours to give that day. Parking is provided. For more information or to recommend someone, contact Kathleen Hall at khall@edow.org or 202-537-6522.
Children to Children Annual Appeal 2012-2013 The Southern Africa Partnership Committee encourages the children of your congregations to participate in this year's appeal to feed the spirits of kids from Richmond, South Africa. Financial contributions will provide varied gifts from musical instruments, DVD's and dance costumes that will expand their horizons and feed their spirits.
