The Split Rock as told in Exodus 17_5.
Research By Pastor, Dr. Howard Davis on The Rock Of Horeb.
Dear friends, here is some wonderful research by pastor Dr. Howard Davis, on the Rock of Horeb, discovered by Jim and Penny, as seen in my video.
Simon Brown.

The Rock Of Horeb.
By Pastor Dr. Howard Davis.

Simon Brown's presentation of the Rock at Horeb caused me to revisit the account of Moses striking this rock. There are so many things I found I can only mention some of them here:

Horeb means: desolation, desert, waste, fig., anguish; distress, to be hemmed in or cramped; on the precipice or edge, assaulted, confined.  In this Rock we see the future Messiah Jesus as being desolate and assaulted, in anguish, and distress. He our Rock was crucified for the sins of the world.

The actual Rock at Horeb would be elevated and in a waste area or desert singular, boulder; cliff (it certainly is from the photos shown), on the edge, solitary or alone. So the actual Rock found seems to be in line with the Hebrew wordage. In this we see Jesus alone dying for our sins elevated on the cross.

Moses struck or beat as it says this Rock at Horeb which pictures the Christ being beaten and crucified. He was only to strike it once. Christ was crucified once for the sins of all.   We don't 'crucify' as it were Christ again in ceremony or rituals.  Hebrews 6:6 b; 9:28; 10:12; l Peter 3:18; Romans 6:10.

The waters that gushed out forcefully represent the powerful saving spiritual waters of salvation that the Savior would give to the ones that were thirsty for this salvation.  l Corinthians 10: 4; John 4:10-14; 6 :35;58; 7: 37-38    Exodus 17:5-6  Also note that God  told Moses that He would "... stand before you there on the rock in Horeb..." Panim is used and means facing or personal presence here. Stand can mean resurrection as predictive here. "God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself." ll Corinthians 5:19    So the Father was with Jesus just as Abraham which pictured the Father was with his "only son" Isaac whom Abraham "loved" when he was told by God to kill him as a substitute for an offering all of which portrays the future Son of God being crucified as a substitutionary sacrifice for man's salvation on a hill too. See this type of the father being with the son going up the mountain to die; but is received back as though he died very much alive. Genesis 22:1-17; Hebrews 11:17-19; John 3:16.

Rock at it is used in Numbers 20:11 is tsur or tsoor in Hebrew is: lofty craggy cliff; bluff; fortress; mountain; bulwark; mighty; citadel; towering. This is no ordinary large rock it is massive like a mountainous cliff or like, as it says in the lexicon, the city of Petra which means rock or cliff in Greek.

As this pictures Christ is resurrection power the lofty one sitting high in the heaven our Rock in whom we trust. This is why Moses was told to "speak" or pray -not strike as he did in great anger - to this massive lofty rock face. In spite of this disobedience God still has water gush forth.

Perhaps this is why the great massive round stone Simon Brown of the UK found that fits the Garden Tomb doorway at Jerusalem represented- providentially - the great resurrected Christ our Rock in lofty resurrected power, and was taken at some point to Mt. Nebo near where Moses died, and God buried him in the wilderness in a secret grave. John 3:14: Note: Nebo means a proclaimer or prophet-inspired predictions. Moses the prophet was a type of the coming Christ the true Savior.  Deuteronomy 18:18; Acts 3:23

We are now to speak and to pray to our resurrected Savior. Moses ruined this type or symbol as God wanted pictured before the people so he was punished and could not enter the Promised Land. John 11:25-26; Deuteronomy 32:49; 34:1; Jude 9; Matthew 17::3
