Apostle St Luke's Grave.
|

This is believed to be the grave of the Apostle or Evangelist Luke, who is the author of the Gospel of Luke. At this place is a circular structure which is described as the grave of St Luke because of the bull carved into the door.
There are different views of how Luke died, it is not certain. Some have said he was 84 years old and martyred when he met his death by idolaters who tortured him and hanged him on an olive tree in the town of Thebes.
What is interesting with this site. My research tells me that Saint Luke actually died in Thebes, in Greece. and parts of his body are now venerated in Padua Cathedral in Italy. They were moved sometime after 1459, after the fall of medieval Serbian capital Smederevo.
St. Luke is often depicted accompanied by an ox or bull, usually having wings. In 1866 John T. Wood, an archaeologist, discovered a pillar engraved with a cross and a bull. Said to be symbols of evangelist St. Lucas, so was ascribed as Luke's tomb. And what about this - Scientific tests on a body in Padua cathedral have shown that it could be that of St Luke. So this site could be St Luke's original tomb. Very interesting, to say the least.

The Author of The Gospel of Luke.

Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. Luke 1. NIV.

Dr. St Luke was a great researcher.
St Luke was a great researcher who travelled with St Paul; he talked to people who knew Jesus. It is believed St Luke met Mary mother of Jesus, and also met St John and Matthew.
Luke wrote Acts of the Apostles.
There are unique teachings of Christianity in Luke's gospel that are not in the other three gospels; such as
the Christmas story, the virgin birth of Jesus in Bethlehem and the time of Jesus as a child, which is the only story from Jesus' boyhood.
T St Luke is the only person to inform us of The Annunciation, which is the Christian celebration of the announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus, the Son of God, marking his Incarnation. Gabriel told Mary to name her son Jesus, meaning "Saviour".
The Birth of Jesus Foretold
In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."
29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. 31 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."
Luke 1:6 to 34. New International Version 1984
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
St Luke stresses in his Gospel the compassion and the love that Jesus had for the weak, poor, diseased, blind and crippled. |
St Luke is also the only person to teach us about one of the most
controversially discussed stories in the Bible,
IS IT A PARABLE? OR A REAL STORY OF THE AFTER LIFE AFTER THE FIRST DEATH? HEAVEN OR HADES.

The innocence of Jesus.
St Luke also emphasizes very clearly in his Gospel that Jesus had committed no crime against Rome; this was confirmed by Herod, Pilate, and one of the thieves crucified with Jesus; all stressing Jesus' innocence. And St Luke also describes the burial cloth of Jesus with incredible accuracy; the cloth which Joseph of Arimathaea used for the burial of Jesus. It existed at that time, and thus, we think that it can only be the Shroud Of Turin, that still exists.

Shroud.
Greek to English.
And having taken it down, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth.
Luke 23:53.
Please note, ''A CLEAN LINEN CLOTH'' Not ''STRIPS''
as many sadly teach and believe.
I am sure you will agree, considering that Luke never met Jesus, he most certainly did his research excellently, as he stated , "Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught." Luke 1:3,4
