Dear Families,
At Mass yesterday, Mrs. Ocampo gave a reflection. She called us to action, to live out the Corporal Works of Mercy, to stand up for justice. She told us the story of her grandfather and how he touched so many lives as he walked in God's footsteps. She told us how students who were in trouble were sent to him, not the principal or the vice-principal. Although he worked as a janitor, he counseled them and listened to their troubles as they served out their detentions with him. Later he became an activist for students and proponent for education for all as the district tried to make cuts in the textbook and programming budget. He was called to action because he cared so much about the children and the education they deserved. This Lent, may we all respond to God's call - to act with justice, to love tenderly and to serve one another.
Trimester two ends tomorrow. You will receive report cards next Thursday. Review them with your children and celebrate their successes and achievements. Look also at areas for improvement and discuss with the children how to make goals for improvement during the last trimester. Make sure those goals are SMART - specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely! Children enjoy a challenge, but they need to be able to see the finish line and how long it will take to get there.
Speaking of measurable and attainable goals, we need close to 300 folks to fill Fremont Studios for the auction! Do you have your tickets? If not, take a moment, go to the link and purchase them. Not only will you enjoy a fabulous night out, but you will also be giving to St. John to support the excellent Catholic educational program and the Egan Hall makeover!
I am looking forward to seeing so many of you there! I have already been perusing the items online and I can't wait to start bidding!
Please continue to pray for Fr. Crispin and his nieces.
Remember, wear green for St. Patrick's Day and come listen to the pipe playing at drop-off time.
Slán agus beannacht,
