Dear Families,
"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?" Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. challenged us, just like Jesus did, to seek justice for all, to serve others and to love our neighbors. All around me at St. John, I witness so many people who heed that call. Some are well known to all of us, others diligently and quietly serve in the background. As we approach Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Catholic Schools Week, the students are discussing the power of solidarity and service. They will be writing letters to thank community members, helping the food bank and reaching out to those in need. One community that needs a huge amount of help is fellow Catholic school and community, St. Mary's, in Aberdeen. This school and some school families suffered damage due to flooding and landslide issues from the major storms that hit Grays Harbor County. The school had to close for a week for clean-up. Our 8th grade student leaders will organize a fundraiser for St. Mary's during Catholic Schools Week. They are asking students to bring in one dollar or what ever your family wishes to donate, and in turn students may wear free dress in St. Mary's colors - royal blue and white. You will also be asked to donate a can of food for the local food bank. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity! The schedule for Catholic Schools Week is below. It promises to be a great celebration of our faith, knowledge and community! Bring your family, friends, and neighbors to the 10:30am Mass, on Sunday, January 25. Mass will be followed by the 8th Grade Cultural Fair and Open House. The year is flying by; it is hard to believe that we are already planning for the 2015-2016 school year. Tonight, we host the Open House for Preschool and Kindergarten. February 2, 3 and 5 are the State of the School presentations. We send congratulations to Mrs. Merrick Bodmer and her husband, Dave on the birth of their son, Tate Matthew Bodmer! Tate was born yesterday at 9:15am. All are well and happy. Thank you for procuring your auction item! That celebration is another one that is fast approaching! See you at the Auction Underwriting Party! Tomorrow is Seahawk Friday - Go Eagles! Support the 'Hawks!

Generosity.
I'm amazed at people's generosity in terms of Scrip. There are so many wonderful people who give Scrip to loved ones or friends who are in need. For instance, there is a person who sends Scrip cards to her child in another state and her elderly mother on a monthly basis. There is another Scrip buyer who sends a Scrip card to their Uncle in another state because he has fallen on hard times. Maybe you know someone who may need a little help buying groceries or gas? Scrip is a great way to do so.

Using Scrip is part of your Fair Share Commitment to St. John School!
