Principal's Letter

Dear Families,

Yesterday, we celebrated our first all-school Mass. The children participated and responded so well. We were very proud of them. I hope they told you all about Fr. Crispin's homily. He asked the children how we show our faith throughout the day and spontaneously invited volunteers to the altar to share their answers. A kindergarten student told us to be grateful! Young students reminded us to share, to treat one another kindly, to do chores. We were so proud of your children!

St. John displayed its celebrated community spirit last week! Thank you so much for your support of the Jog-A-Thon and the Welcome Back Carnival last week! It was delightful to see so many of you throughout the day. You added to the cheerfulness generated by the children's smiles as they jogged and skipped around both tracks.  We also had fun at the carnival. I applaud the seventh grade students and you, parent volunteers, for all the assistance you provided.  A huge shout-out to Seņor Pablo and his team! We all enjoyed a great day!  You received the Jog-Alert - be sure to get your donations in!

Next week, on September 26, parents get to have a night out!  There are still some tickets available to the Purple & Gold Dinner at which we celebrate our beloved teacher, Mrs. Jody Desclos.   Join us at Fremont Studios to continue building the St. John community!

Thank you for your attention to the health alerts and also, begin sending sweaters and coats! The weather is changing!

Beannacht,

Eighth grade students are preparing to complete the final batch of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless shelter at St. Martin de Porres, that they pledged in 2011.  Mr. Thomas led this group as fourth graders, setting the goal for themselves of 3,000 sandwiches by the time they graduated in 2015.  St. John School received the portrait, Adriana in exchange for this service.  You can view the painting in the west end of the second floor hallway.

From The Playground

To maintain a safely monitored recess for your children, it is necessary to recruit adults who can commit to a regular time slot through the school year.  I currently have openings to fill from 11:15 to 12:45 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Your younger children are welcome, provided they will not keep your attention from the school children.

NoJunk

THIS WILL CHANGE THE WAY YOU EAT FOREVER!

We at NoJunk Inc. know a lot about healthy food, but we were shocked after watching the new documentary movie FED UP. After viewing this documentary we decided to be even healthier.

We have removed all of the sweet drinks that contains more than 16 grams ( 4 teaspoons) of sugar from our website. All drinks on our website will have a description of how much sugar each drink contains. (One can of coke contains approximately 10 teaspoons of sugar.)

On average, each American consumes 130 pounds of sugar every year.

This equals 875 extra calories just in sugar per day, which equals 2 healthy meals per day.

Men shouldn't have more than 9 teaspoons daily, while women shouldn't have more than 6.

Children ages 4 to 8 who average 1,600 calories per day should limit added sugar to about 3 teaspoons (12 grams) per day. Most teenagers should limit consumption to 32 to 40 grams of sugar, equivalent to 8 teaspoons.

Get your child excited about packing her/his lunch online at:

http://www.nojunk-goodfood.com/school-bag-lunch-category.html

Our homemade bread rolls for our sandwiches do not contain any processed sugar, just a little bit of raw natural honey.

Scrip

The Scrip Team is happy to announce, we are adding

two more local vendors to our inventory!

We are selling Brown Bear Car Wash tickets for $6 each.  For $6, you can get a Basic Brown Bear Car Wash at any tunnel location.  If you wish to upgrade the car wash, you can simply pay the difference.  The best part, St. John School gets $4.50 back for each ticket sold.  No, that's not a typo!

The second vendor is University Village.  With the gift card, you can go to all of the stores and restaurants located within University Village.  We are currently selling $50 denominations with a 5% rebate back to St. John School.

Please place your orders at scrip@stjohnsea.org
