Principal's Letter

Dear Families,

We began our week with a beautiful student-led Advent Prayer in Egan Hall. Thank you for dropping your children off on time!  It is lovely to gather as a full school for prayer and to have so many parents present.  Students will gather each Monday morning, during Advent, moving directly from the playground line up at 8:20, to Egan Hall. Tomorrow, we will have Mass for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.  Students should be in dress uniform.  Come and join us and read Father Crispin's message below for more ways to celebrate, as a family, the birth of Jesus.

Jambo -

We are fast approaching the glorious Christmas Season. I think that you will agree time passes more quickly year after year! Over the last few years it has been apparent that on Christmas Eve many parishioners along with their extended families come to worship at St. John. I am thrilled that we have such community on this very special night.

To accommodate all who wish to celebrate on Christmas Eve, we will be offering TWO Children's Masses:  4pm and 6pm.  For safety reasons and because of fire code regulations, ushers will have to strictly monitor the number of attendees at each Mass and only allow enough participants to fill the seats and keep the aisles clear. There will be minimal standing allowed.  We anticipate that this means approximately 600 people can attend each Mass. Please plan accordingly and have everyone in your family arrive early to ensure a seat.  We hope that adding this second Children's Mass makes us better able to serve our Parish families, and we ask your understanding if we have reached capacity and you are asked to return for a later service.

We look forward to having our wonderful children lead us in worship on this very blessed night. We are so fortunate to have the Schola choir join us for the 4pm Mass and the Cantionis Choir assist us in worship at the 6pm. There are additional masses at 9pm on Christmas Eve and 9am on Christmas Morning.

In the coming weeks, please read the parish bulletin for additional information regarding the Masses for Christmas. The parish is making every effort to ensure that the Masses are a joyous celebration for everyone.

Baraka ya Yesu!

Cleaning out closets and play rooms? Wondering what to do with gently used baby items?

EVERY YEAR, more families slip into the ranks of the working poor. They love their children but cannot afford the most basic necessities - diapers, car seats, formula, clothing and blankets. Since 1988, the Baby Corner has been providing these essential items to families living in poverty in the greater Seattle-King County area. All donations go directly to those in need - nothing is sold. Items of greatest need are:

    • Cold Weather items such as jackets, tops and bottoms, newborn thru 5T
    • Diapers (disposable or cloth), all sizes
    • Diaper Rash Ointment and Diaper Wipes
    • Infant Formula (with iron)
    • Toys, baby equipment (portable cribs, car seats, strollers)
    • Baby front packs, nursing pillows, and bedding
    • NO CRIBS, PLEASE

Items may be placed in the crib in the back of the church.  Visit www.seattlebabycorner.org for more information about the good works done.
