Fr. Crispin and friends jog for Peru and The Eagles' Nest
|
We remember in our prayers this week the many people affected by the tornado in Oklahoma. We pray for those who died and for their families. We pray for all those who are now homeless. We pray for the volunteers and responders. Mikey L. in the eighth grade is our Geography Bee champion! He had some stiff competition during the five rounds of the competition. Thank you, Mrs. Macaulay-Walker, for organizing this informative and entertaining event. Another entertaining event was our Jog-a-Thon and I think that Fr. Crispin was the champion! The students were thrilled when he ran laps around the playground with them. Check out the school's Facebook page for photographs. I realize that this fundraiser came very quickly on the heels of the auction and you may have felt pressure to donate to the excellent local and global causes - our Peruvian sister school's playground and our garden project. I am also aware that during last week, many folks heeded the call from the Seattle Foundation's GiveBig. I know that this month we sign up for the Annual Catholic Appeal. Fr. Crispin and the school and parish administration acknowledge that you may be experiencing an epidemic of "asks." We understand that you are asked often to contribute to our school and other charitable causes and you have to choose what you are able to do. We are so grateful to you. This year's auction was the biggest ever! Bike to School and Work Days were a huge success. Now that summer is closer, we hope you will continue to leave the car at home. If you drive, please continue to be cautious and respectful to other road users. Parents and neighbors alike have informed the school that cars are parking too near the corners and driveways (Seattle Municipal Code asks for at least 5 feet clearance from the edge of the driveway or alley). The cars overhanging the street corners force children and parents to walk out into the street without being able to see oncoming vehicles. The safety of our children and our St. John families is paramount. Slow down, watch out for others and be safe. Thank you for celebrating Mrs. Grandorf's blessing with us. Next week, the students will have their turns to "bless" her. We will have a good-bye assembly on Thursday afternoon at 1:45pm in the gym. You are welcome to attend. Next week the eighth grade students' graduation activities also begin. The Baccalaureate Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, June 2. We are delighted to report that we have a name for our new garden behind the portables. Students voted through last week and they have spoken: The Eagles' Nest is alive with Spring growth. Stop by and see the progress. Thanks to our dedicated primary parent volunteers. It feels like we celebrated Labor Day just last week. This year flew by so quickly and Memorial Day is upon us. Let us pause and appreciate that every minute we spend together is a gift and every smile we share is a prayer. Beannacht, Bernadette O'Leary |

90th Anniversary Year
In the coming school year (2013-2014) we will be celebrating the St. John School 90th Anniversary all year long! We need everyone's help in reaching St. John School graduates to bring together memories and stories from the first 90 years of St. John School.
If you ARE a graduate of St. John School, KNOW a graduate of St. John School, are RELATED to a graduate of St. John School, or can GET IN TOUCH with a graduate, we need YOUR HELP!
You don't have to be a graduate to "like" our new Facebook page: www.facebook.com/stjohnschoolseattlealumni. By 'liking' us, your own Facebook page will come up as a fan of ours and you will be helping to spread the word!
St. John School graduates are encouraged to email us their special memories, along with their contact information, to stjohnmemories@gmail.com.
THANK YOU for your help. If you have any questions, please contact Michele Thornquist at mthornquist@stjohnsea.org or Jen Bergman at the-bergmans@comcast.net.
