Message From the Principal

Dear Families,

Tonight is our first opportunity to experience Beauty and the Beast, Jr.  Middle school students have worked hard with talented director, Mrs. Katie Franklin to produce a professional performance everyone is sure to enjoy!  Thank you to all the volunteers who have worked to create the beautiful sets and costumes, and all the behind the scenes efforts that go into creating such magic.  Break a leg!  Click the video link above for a sneak peek, and see below for performance times.

Thanks to the efforts of Steve Berlage and Seņor Pablo we will soon have a new composting program in place.  Working with city and county officials students will soon have instruction on how to handle waste more efficiently.  Diligence in this effort will be great for the environment, reduce fees paid for collection, and help students understand more about stewardship.

We are rounding the corner and nearing the date of the Auction!  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year.  St. John School depends on the returns from this effort, as explained at the recent State of the School.  Do turn in your donations now!  Forms may be turned in prior to items, so don't delay - the deadline for the catalogue is near!

I am away until Friday afternoon, serving on an accreditation team at St. Cecilia School.

Bennacht,

Bernadette O'Leary

Principal

Operation Rice Bowl 2012

Each year Catholic Relief Services asks families to consider Operation Rice Bowl. Operation Rice Bowl invites us to pray and fast in solidarity with those who are hungry around the world and give sacrificial donations to help those in need. Once a week, your family can eat a smaller meatless meal and donate the difference saved to Operation Rice Bowl. Students were given cardboard Rice Bowls last week, for collecting Lenten sacrifices. These sacrifices may be turned in at the Holy Thursday service, at the Easter service, or to the school office to be forwarded to CRS.  Visit www.crsricebowl.org for additional resources to use at home such as recipes, prayers and information on some of the countries supported by CRS.

Riva, BenSt. John School Grad Turned Washington Offensive Lineman Helps Grandpa to Doctor

Washington sophomore offensive lineman Ben Riva isn't just a starter on the Huskies' football team, he's also a good Samaritan.

According to a Redditor who posted a story and photo of Riva on the social media website, the grandfather of the Redditor's fiance was struggling to get to a doctor when Riva randomly stepped in and carried the elderly man down the stairs to reach the office.

The post has received over 2,000 likes on Reddit, with an awesome photo of the grandpa standing next to the 6-foot-6, 300-pound giant.

With all the negative stories we hear in the college football off season, it's nice to hear about a player's act of kindness for a change.  (Reddit)

Please see the attached for further contest rules and details.
