Message From the Principal Last Friday night, the Fulcrum Foundation honored Mary Larson Maher, whose painting of a homeless person hangs proudly in our second floor hallway, for her work with the less fortunate. By now, you have seen the video about her and how she encouraged our sixth grade students to make sandwiches for the homeless people. What you didn't see or hear was Mary Larson Maher's acceptance speech. She repeatedly acknowledged as her inspiration the promise that Jesus made to us. "I am in your midst as one who serves." I wish every Catholic school teacher, parent, student could attend this celebration of Catholic education. It highlights so movingly the power of our faith and the excellence of our schools. Mrs. Larson Maher was honored for her service. The other champions of Catholic Education were the Finkbonner family members, who were instrumental in the canonization of St. Kateri Tekakwitha, and were honored for their faith in the power of prayer, and Mick McHugh, who was honored for his commitment to Catholic education. As we prepared and presented the State of the School this week, I was struck by how many champions of Catholic education we have in the St. John community. We are blessed because we could not run this school unless we lived by the code of service to others. We are all called to serve; we are all in this together. According to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., life's most persistent and urgent question is, "What are you doing for others?" We ask what are you doing for St. John School? We are called to walk in the footsteps of Jesus. As Lent approaches, let us emulate His words, "I am in your midst as one who serves." Beannacht, Bernadette O'Leary |

If you are available 11:15 to 12:45 Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Fridays, please contact me at floribunda51@yahoo.com. Younger children are welcome provided they are not a distraction from providing watchful interaction with the school children.
