Message From the Principal

Happy New Year!  May your hopes and dreams find their fulfillment in the love of God.

Here at St. John, we resolved to continue our work with Second Step and to practice some more of the Habits of Mind.  Some classes are working on being more empathetic and understanding, others on controlling their impulsivity and others on persisting.  Ask your student about his/her classroom resolution and discuss how you can take steps to support the new habits as a family.

The New Year also rings in registration time for the 2013-2014 school year.  The administration team is preparing for the Open Houses and the State of the School presentations.  You also have some work to do.  Are you up-to-date with your sacrificial giving?  The new pledge forms are being mailed out tomorrow.  All parish families must be participating fully in the parish and have a pledge card on file.

On Tuesday, January 15, Susan Burdett will present Love and Logic.   You don't want to miss this.  No matter how old or young your children are, the tips from parenting with Love and Logic are so valuable.  The presentation will begin at 7:00 in Egan Hall.  Thank you, so much, Parent Association for making this possible.

National Catholic Schools Week will be celebrated during the week of January 27 - February 2.  We will begin our week with the Mass, which is central to our lives as Catholics.  We ask that you attend the 10:30 Mass on Sunday, January 27 and that the students wear formal dress uniform.  You will find the schedule for the week here.

Fulcrum Foundation

2013/2014 Tuition Assistant Grants
for
In Parish and Out of Parish Families

Fulcrum Foundation Hossfeld Tuition Assistance Program applications are now available for the 2013/2014 school year.  Please visit the Fulcrum Foundation to apply.  Grants for parish members help offset the difference between the actual cost to educate and the amount of the family's pledge.  Grants for out of parish students reduce the amount of tuition owed by the family.  Out of parish families considering a request for financial aid from St. John School are required to also apply for a Fulcrum grant.  Apply online and provide a copy of your application and supporting documents (2011 tax returns, etc.) to St. John School, attention Diane Crockett not later than Friday, February 8, 2013.  If you have questions or need assistance in completing your application, Mrs. Crockett is happy to help.

  SMart Tuition Aid

A limited amount of financial aid is available to out of parish families.  Aid is based on financial need.  Out of parish families applying for St. John School Financial Aid may do so by going to Smart Tuition Aid (you must also apply for a Fulcrum Grant to be considered for this award - see above).  Questions?  Contact Mrs. Crockett in the school office.

 SCRIP

Thanks to all the families who purchased Scrip in the month of December.  During the month of December we worked every morning and afternoon to make buying scrip as easy as possible for our families.  Our hard work paid off as we will be delivering a check to St. John for over $10,000 just for December sales. This represents over $150,000 in sales - an increase of 10% over the same period last year.  Thanks for all that you do!

Scrip is a completely volunteer run program that takes many hands and many hours to run.  I wanted to personally thank Lisa McKenny, Chrissi Hilt and Amy Morris.  These ladies work every week to ensure the program's success and St. John's success.   Let's keep the momentum going.  Scrip can be used for Super Bowl Parties, kids birthday parties and date night with that special someone.  Simply email your order to scrip@stjohnsea.org or fill out the yellow form and send into the school office.

Happy New Year!
