Dear Families,
Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day, Grades 2-5, was a wonderful event. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with their students, eating lunch, listening to the wonderful entertainment presented by Schola and Cantionis, touring classrooms. Thank you, Michele Thornquist for your leadership, and Rachel Oximana for chairing the event and gathering a committee of assistants to create such a special event for these friends of St. John School!
Tuesday, November 20 , is a dress uniform day. Our Thanksgiving Liturgy and blessing of food collected for the needy will take place in church at 9am. You are invited to attend this special event.
As this is our last NewsViews until after the Thanksgiving holidays, I would like to express my gratitude for all you do for the St. John community. Giving of your time, talent, and treasure blesses our school and church, as well as the greater community that is connected to us in many different ways. Our prayers are with you and your children during this holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving!
Beannacht,
Bernadette O'Leary

Preparations for this year's auction are in full swing. Once again, Wilo Dietrich has created an auction logo that perfectly captures the theme. Many thanks, Wilo!
We announced a few of the changes being made to this year's auction, at the recent Parent Association meeting. The one we're most excited about is the addition of an After-Auction Party! Immediately following the live auction on Saturday, guests wanting to continue the party will need only to go upstairs. Michele O'Neill and Erin Murphy are coordinating the event and, from what we've heard from them so far, you don't want to miss this!
The biggest change will be to the family portion of the Friday night auction. Due to issues of overcrowding and child safety the family pizza dinner will be replaced with an expanded event for the children. The event will include the children's raffle and carnival games that our children love, and will let us double the amount of childcare available to parents attending the silent auction. Marcey Flood, Colleen Mounsey and Jane Blaylock have volunteered to plan this fun event. Please contact them if you are able to help.
If you're interested in volunteering for the auction, please visit our website or email co-chairs Lynnette Muenzberg or Karen Schuler.

St. John Parish News
Message from Fr. Crispin Okoth
We are fast approaching the Advent and glorious Christmas Season. I think that you will agree time passes more quickly year after year! Over the last few years it has been apparent that on Christmas Eve many parishioners along with their extended families prefer to attend and celebrate the birth of our Savior at the earlier Mass. Last year we had over 1000 people attending the 5pm children's Mass. I am thrilled that we have such community on this very special night, but we do have a serious issue regarding fire and safety regulations. We have been advised that we can no longer have such a huge overflow for the Mass, as by doing so we violate the terms of our fire and safety permit.
To accommodate the large volume on Christmas Eve we will be offering TWO children's Masses, at 4pm and 6pm. The ushers will have to strictly monitor the number of attendees for each Mass and only allow enough participants to fill all of the seats - there will be minimal standing room allowed. We anticipate that we cannot allow more than approximately 600 per Mass. Please plan accordingly. All are welcome; however, we must adhere to City requirements as well.
We look forward to having our wonderful children lead us in worship on this very blessed night. We are so fortunate to have the Cantionis choir join us for the 4pm Mass and the Schola assist us at the 6pm. There will be additional Masses at 9pm, 12 midnight, and 9am on Christmas morning.
In the coming weeks please read the bulletins for additional information regarding the Masses for Christmas. The parish is making every effort to ensure that these Masses are a joyous celebration for everyone.
