Tax season is here! 

Many of you take advantage of the free tax forms we make available at the beginning of each year.  We're told that the instruction booklets (1040, 1040A & 1040EZ) should arrive sometime between the end of January & the end of February.  We'll make them available to you as soon as we get our hands on them!

 

As an added bonus this year, AARP will be at Westbank on Fridays from 10am to 3pm February 14th-April 11th offering free tax prep!  More information is coming, so keep checking our website this month. 

 

Financial Education Programs 

Tonight (January 15th) marks the return of financial education programs with SOFA.  Come to Westbank at 6:30pm & learn about Asset Allocation & Modern Portfolio Theory which includes investment planning against risk, planning your money so that you don't outlive your savings, & more.  These programs will continue at least through June on the third Wednesdays of the month with different topics covered each time. 

 

Monthly Gardening Programs 

Our third Thursday gardening programs will be continuing at least through May.  Tomorrow (January 16th), come to Westbank at noon to hear from a Master Gardener who will talk about Butterfly Gardening & the plight of the Monarchs. 

 

Saturday Technology Workshops 

Our very popular technology workshops are back.  On Saturday, January 18th, come to Westbank at 10:30am for Intro to Facebook.  If you're new to this social media site, don't fret, we'll catch you up on what you've missed.  Beginners are welcome; you are encouraged to bring your own laptop or tablet.

 

Also, mark your calendar for Saturday, February 1st at Westbank, 10:30am for Intro to Microsoft Word.  

 

Memoir Writing 

Whether you're a new writer or an experienced one, we hope you'll check out our Memoir Writing program on Tuesdays at 6:30pm at Westbank.  It will meet weekly through March 4th.  Come to every program for a comprehensive writing course, or come just once for a creative writing boost.  You can share your writing with the group & receive feedback from a professional writer who will lead the group.  

 

Free Film Screening 

On Wednesday, January 22nd, 6pm at Laura's Library, Austin Documentary Fans will be hosting a free screening of the critically-acclaimed documentary Herman's House which follows Herman Wallace, the man who may have been the longest serving prisoner in solitary confinement in United States' history.  There will be a Q&A following the film at 7:25pm. 

 

Alleviate Your Pain  

Are you interested in living a more pain-free life?  Come to a presentation about Myofascial Release Therapy with the owner of StillPoint Bodywork who is a John F Barnes Myofascial Release therapist.  You'll learn about this technique & get self-care instructions.  Westbank Library on Wednesday, January 22nd at 6:30pm
