'I am with thee always'
Triune Mercy Center / November 2012
|
From the pastor:
I will never forget one of my early encounters at Triune. A man met me on the sidewalk on the Stone Avenue side of the church, waving a giant chicken breast in my face. Only one bite had been taken out of it, which apparently was the source of his glee. "Can you believe someone threw this out?" he asked excitedly. It was my first experience with someone who actually dived into a dumpster for a meal -- in this case the dumpster of our next door neighbor, Tommy's Ham House. I thought of that day when I saw this painting by Charles Graham. Charles painted it during his first visit to our art room, and in fact, it was his first painting ever. It shows a homeless man sleeping beside a dumpster with his dog. "I am with thee always," Charles wrote above the scene. Charles is graciously allowing us to use his image for Triune's first-ever honor card, available this holiday season for a minimum $10 donation. Inside, the card says ... A gift has been given in your honor to
Triune Mercy Center.
This holiday gift will spread the joy of Jesus Christ
to the homeless and hurting people Triune serves.
You can purchase the cards by coming to Triune's reception area or by sending in the order form below. Then you mail the cards. If you want us to address, stamp and send them, enclose your mailing list as well as the signature you want on the card and an extra $1 per card, please. If you would prefer our regular honor card -- a pen-and-ink drawing of the church -- we are still offering that as well. We hope you will share the joy of Christ's birth in this special way. * * * * * * * Also, come visit our table at Berea Friendship UMC's Holiday Bazaar Nov. 2, 8 AM to 7 PM, and Nov. 3, 8 AM to 1 PM. We will be selling books, note cards, CD's, crocheted items and other crafts from our volunteers and parishioners. Berea Friendship is at 8001 White Horse Road. * * * * * * * I will be speaking about my new book, The Weight of Mercy, at Book Your Lunch at noon Thursday, November 15, at the Lazy Goat. Tickets are $25. Call Fiction Addiction at 864-675-0540 to reserve your seat. Blessings,
Deb Richardson-Moore
