Jim's Article -  Love Offering

Last Sunday night I was asked to do something I don't get to do every Sunday. I was
Rev Dr Jim Gill
asked to pray for the offering.
I guess since some of the offering on Sunday mornings goes to pay my light bills it is somehow inappropriate for me to pray for our Sunday morning offering, but I was delighted to get to pray for the LOVE Offering at the concert at St. Paul Presbyterian Church last Sunday night. The concert was called "Get Together-a Concert for All People to Stand Against Violence." Among those who will be recipients of the Love Offering will be the families of the victims of the Orlando Shootings and the Dallas Police Officers.

Mildred Jones' 80th Birthday and Farewell Reception

The family of Mildred Jones would like to invite her church family and friends to an 80th birthday & farewell reception immediately following worship on September 4. Mildred will be moving closer to Nancy, her daughter in Denver. The family will provide a light lunch along with a birthday cake, allowing us to sit and visit with Mildred awhile before she moves away from us.

Rally Day September 11th

This year's Rally Day will be on September 11th. In worship we will hear from the various Classes we offer on Sunday mornings. During our catered Bar-B-Que Lunch we will hear from the other ministries of our church.. As Carrie Martin has been sharing we will also have a "Silent Auction." If you have new or gently used items or can secure special gifts from businesses you know or are a part of, please contact us and let us know. I'm planning to offer a choice of a "House Concert" or a "House Sermon"-personalized on your favorite scripture! Proceeds from the Silent Auction will help us replenish our Christian Education supplies for the year and also benefit the Diana Gray Child Care Center that is sponsored by Church Women United.

Dear Faith Presbyterian Church family,

Your prayers, remembrances, kind words, and cards have all been a great support and now comfort to us.  So many of you came together to provide the beautiful reception that followed the memorial service for our dad, Tad Patton.  Thank you.  Delicious dishes filled the tables and we were able to be comforted by you, friends, and family.  It was a very special time to remember our dad.
With love and gratitude,

Pastoral Caregiving

Steven Spidell, D.Min., B.C.C., Director, Spiritual Care and Values Integration of Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital, Baytown, will present Pastoral Caregiving-- Beyond the Traumatic Experience: Innovative Practices to Support Recovery.

Spiritual care providers are often the first persons notified when there is a serious or life threatening event in someone's life. Such events are often the cause of a traumatic reaction. Trauma is a person's physical, emotional, and spiritual response to a perceived threat. Being knowledgeable about what we can offer at such times is essential for informed caregiving.

This workshop will address the nature of trauma, reactions, and appropriate interventions.

SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, September 17; 9:00 AM; Fellowship Hall at Faith
(8:30 a.m. light breakfast provided)

ALL ARE WELCOME!
Ping Pong Anyone? September 25th

Mike Wilson issued a challenge to the Christian Education Committee to help hold a
Ping Pong Tournament. The Committee has taken up the challenge and would like to see how much interest there is in holding one on Sunday afternoon, September 25. We think it would be a great Fellowship Activity for all ages and could possibly be one that might draw people from our Community to come and visit our church. We will advertise it along with our Silent Auction for our Rally Day on September 11th. It will be my last day before my Knee Replacement surgery, so if I blow out my knee in the tournament I can get a new one the next day. If you are interested tell me or Mike Wilson or email me at
jimgill@baytownpres.org. We have a Ping Pong Table in our youth room if you want to find a partner and start practicing now.
