Jim's Article - The Icing on the Cake

For my birthday Eve party last Wednesday, I went to 3 Brother's Bakery in Houston to ask them to make a special cake-a Ukulele cake. I showed the lady who was taking my order a picture of my ukulele. She began to describe how they would do it. She said that they would make the neck out of cardboard, but it would be iced like the rest of the cake but we couldn't eat it. She asked what kind of cake and what kind of filling and what kind of icing I would like. I decided on yellow cake with pineapple filling and chocolate icing. I asked her how much that would be and she said, "$500."

Adopt-A-Site

This coming Saturday is our church's Adopt-A-Site date to clean up trash around the church grounds and along our designated stretch of North Main. Please plan to help by meeting at the church at 8:00 am and finish by 9:30 am if at least 6-8 volunteers participate. Wear comfortable outdoor clothes and wear sunscreen. Gloves , trash bags, and safety vests will be provided.Hope to see you there.

It's already time to prepare for the back to school season. Please notice that there is a box located at the entrance to our church with information about Operation Backpack, the annual YMCA drive to collect school supplies and backpacks for the kids in our Baytown schools. Yearly, our local drive has resulted in 1000-1200 backpacks and supplies being distributed. The drive is currently underway and will end about August 12th. Thanks you for your generosity in the past and the future.
