July-August 2013

Rosa

Dear friends and customers,

August is usually the clean-up month.  We've been busy making sure the watering is efficient, the weeding complete, the summer pruning and shearing accomplished, and that summer digging and transplanting are underway.

Clethra alnifolia

While we've been doing all of that, mother nature has been busy  completing other cycles.  Bees and butterflies abound-- pollinating, procreating and perfecting the flower displays of summer plants.

Heptacodium

We have dozens of containers robust and ready for the job site.  We are  full steam ahead on summer digging.  Let us know if you need anything FAST!

Have a look at some of the links below for availability or better yet, take a moment on a hot afternoon and give us a call.  We'd be glad to talk about how we can help!

SPECIAL TRIBUTE * Art Spomer (1940-2013)
Friend, mentor, philosopher, naturalist

A dear friend passed away this month.  Most people will know Dr. Art Spomer was an accomplished and respected University of Illinois plant physiologist, prolific writer, cutting-edge researcher, an outstanding advisor and revered professor of environmental plant sciences and soils.

He was also a source of inspiration through his understanding and communication of earth and plant science, natural beauty and a skilled and talented artist in many mediums, one being photography as depicted in one of his many email postcards below from August 2009.

We will miss him so much.

Thank you Art, for making a difference in my life.  love, Mary T.
