Building Relationships
CCOP's Father Leonard began his May 3rd homily about the Gospel reading, John 15:1-15, by saying, "In this week's reading, John uses the image of a vine and its branches to help and to challenge the early believing community, and our believing community today, to appreciate our close relationship with Jesus." He concluded with these words: "If we stay close to Jesus, we have in the Vine a source for all the grace and strength we need for our lives, and the result will be joy. The result will be fruit that will last, that blesses the world and reveals us as followers of the Risen One, a community of love. Together we are so much more powerful than any of us can be on our own."
Aristotle's commentary about friendship and Pope Francis's "Joy of the Gospel" teach us more about building relationships.

Support Housing Legislation
Housing instability is affecting more people than ever before and California has 13 of the 14 least affordable metropolitan statistical areas (MSA) in the country. California's severe shortage of affordable homes has driven the state's poverty rates to the highest in the nation. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the Bay Area is far out of reach for one in three Californians, including workers critical to the growth of our economy and diversity of our communities. Learn about pending legislation and what you can do to support it

Helen Chavez, 85, the widow of Cesar Chavez, remembers women farm workers on Mother's Day
When my husband, Cesar Chavez, and I helped begin the United Farm Workers in 1962, it was clear that the union was equally for women and men. So what better time than Mother's Day to remember the women and mothers the UFW is still fighting for. Nowhere do women farm workers need more protection than at Gerawan Farming. This is a giant company with 5,000 workers. It grows grapes and tree fruit in Fresno County, and sells under its Prima label. Please read stories from women workers at Gerawan.
