Today's newsletter has a new section called "Social Justice News and Information" which will give more attention to what is commonly thought of as "social justice".  Any of you are welcome to send suggestions for sources for this section or links to articles to socialjustice@catholicsofpleasanton.org.

Building Concern for Others 

   

All of us need people around us who will help us develop a concern for others.  According to the book "Concern for Others" published in 1990 and written by Tom Kitwood, who was a Lecturer in Social Psychology at the University of Bradford in the UK, what we need are people who will show us

  • Respect
  • Empathy
  • Concern
  • Reliable provision

If we have people close to us who display these qualities our natural reaction will be to want to follow their example.  As our behavior changes and we begin to acquire these desirable qualities, people will experience what it is like to be treated considerately and will tend to imitate us in turn.
