Starting Your Search
One of the great benefits of Ravelry is the ability to search for yarns to use in your knitting project.
Let's say you had a pattern that you would like to knit but wasn't sure which yarn to use or where to purchase it.
To begin, go to the pattern page of the project you want to make:
As you can see, there are several options for yarn choices. The box outlines the yarn the pattern designer used. If you don't have that yarn or would like to see what other yarn options can be used, click on the tab "Yarn Ideas" circled above.
Yarn Ideas
On the Yarn Ideas tab, all the yarns used by other Ravelers to make this pattern are listed. For our example, circled below is Madelinetosh Tosh DK. It was used 181 times for this pattern.
If you click on " used 181 times," the page below appears and lists all of the projects using that particular yarn. You can click on Madelinetosh Tosh DK and the yarn's page will appear. If you would like to see where you can purchase this yarn to make your project, just click on see all buying options. On the buying options page, there will be two columns of buying options: online stores and local stores. If you see a local store that sells the yarn, you can give them a call. If no local stores are listed, you can try one of the online stores listed.
Clicking on check price will display that store's price and other details like discounts and colorways available.
In the next Ravelry how-to newsletter, I'll show you how to keep track of yarn in your stash.
Now you know how to search for yarns for your patterns in Ravelry!
