December 2015

Christmas greetings from Mannkal!

Remaining Sane in an Insane World
(A Festive thought for you.)

Don't judge the world
just by today's headlines.
The mob rarely gets it right,
so who will guide you through?

It could be a rough journey
on your own.
Sanity preserved,
by just a few.

They may never ever meet each other,
although each with
a strong link,
just to you.

Their numbers may be,
as few as five,
importantly each, a vital ingredient,
to keep you sane and alive.

Value each, for without their help,
you would have to reassemble
the many shattered pieces.
A daunting task that makes us tremble.

So, here's a thought for you,
as we enter this Festive Season.
Identify those special few
and explain clearly the reason.

Then do something special,
separately with each,
before such opportunity
is beyond your reach.

Economic Freedom of the World Index Launch

The Mannkal Foundation held one of its largest annual events in October, the Economic
Freedom of the World Index Launch.

The Economic Freedom of the World Index, released annually by the Fraser Institute, measures the degree to which the policies and institutions of countries are supportive of economic freedom. The Index is dependent on the level of freedom exhibited- measured by size of government, legal structures and the protection of property rights, access to sound money, free trade, and the regulation of credit, labour and business.

Mannkal was pleased to welcome Fred McMahon, Fraser Institute Resident Fellow and manager of the Freedom of the World Project, and James Paterson, Deputy Executive Director of the IPA to launch the Index in Perth.

Mr McMahon and Mr Paterson both delivered captivating presentations to an audience of students, members of
the business community and seasoned activists for economic freedom.

Australia ranked highly (12th place out of 157 countries). Hong Kong and Singapore occupied the top two positions followed by New Zealand, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, Mauritius, Jordan, Ireland, Canada, and the United Kingdom and Chile.

Quote of the Month

Paul's Perspective

Chinese Burn

Western Australia is at risk of losing billions and a new industry as a Chinese firm say it's fed up with the difficulty of doing business in WA.

Could it be due to unreasonable demands and excessive delays on the part of the Barnett Government and Department of State Development?

Odd Defenders of China's One Child Policy

Has the One Child Policy benefited China?

"If the government had no policy regarding family size, then couples who wanted multiple children could embark on that path, while those who only wanted one child could stop at one."

Author Robert Murphy concludes that not only was the One Child Policy a horrible violation of liberty, it wasn't even effective. MORE > > >

Jihadist Islamism presents us with a clash of ideologies. Whilst we may attempt to combat this militarily and politically, the real battle will be in the realm of ideas'. MORE> > >

Frank Salter, an Australian academic and researcher at the former  Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Physiology in Germany states that diversity has been associated with reduced democracy, slowed economic growth, falling social cohesion and foreign aid, as well as rising corruption and risk of civil conflict.

 Party Time in Paris

Online Opinion Author and founder of the Carbon Sense Coalition, Viv Forbes, exploits the irrationality behind the hype of the  'Global Warming' phenomena.

President Obama insisted that humanity faces no greater threat than climate change. It's not only Obama with this view as Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, Minister for Green Energy Greg Hunt and Chief Climate Alarmist, Tim Flannery, plus support staff and media  are joining the party in Paris.

Forbes argues that "the biggest security threat facing the world today is NOT a minuscule increase in atmospheric plant food, caused mainly by gentle natural global warming which has triggered minor expulsion of carbon dioxide from the oceans."

Plant and animal life are built out of carbon. Therefore, those waging a war on hydro-carbons and carbon dioxide are enemies of the biosphere. "Their foolish policies like carbon taxes, emissions trading and Carbon Capture Burial are denying essential nutrients to the food chain."

Look Who's Talking

Heartland Institute, CFACT Announce Energy Panel Speakers for 'Day of Examining Data' at COP-21

Climate scientists and policy experts will be gathering in Paris for the COP-21 conference.  The latest climate science shows humans are not causing a global warming crisis, and that the United Nations' plans to restrict fossil fuel use in emerging economies will keep the world's poor from rising out of poverty. MORE> > >
