July 2015
Mannkal's e-Focus
Greetings!
June came to an end with our annual Mannkal breakfast. This early morning gave alumni the opportunity to mingle and share their experiences with future potential scholars for 2015/16.
July brings upon an exciting month for Mannkal as we send 14 scholars to ten various domestic and international internships around the world. Twenty Mannkal scholars are currently in Bali for the World Conference on Market Liberalization where economists, followers of Austrian Economics and libertarians all over the world come together. This conference is bound to be a success with a powerful speaker line-up, including Atlas Network's Executive Vice President for International Programs, Dr. Tom G. Palmer. Feedback from the conference will be provided in the next E-focus - stay tuned!

Quote of the Month
|
"There is nothing in all the world greater than freedom. It is worth paying for; it is worth going to jail for. I would rather be a free pauper than a rich slave. I would rather die in abject poverty with my convictions than live in inordinate riches with the lack of self respect."
Martin Luther King Jr

Paul's Perspective
on Coal - Not The "New" Black, but the Best
|
Current fashions are often referred to as "the new black" - unless the black in question is millions of years old and has a high calorific value. Coal is as unfashionable as you can get, at least according to the Greens, who want a ban on Australia's coal exports and are targeting projects in Queensland's Galilee Basin..........
Why do we need coal and gas-fired power? To find out, click here.

The Key to Reclaiming Classical Liberalism is Ideas
The intellectuals are not the creators of knowledge. They convey the knowledge of the true expert. They are "second-hand dealers in ideas," and as such they have an enormous influence over public opinion. Hayek argued that every country that had adopted some version of socialism had seen socialist ideas adopted by the intellectuals in the decades prior. Read more here.
