Mannkal's e-Focus

Greetings!

Today, 4th June, is an important day in Hong Kong.

Firstly, it is the anniversary of the 1989 crack-down on student protestors in Beijing's Tiananmen Square and also the anniversary of last year's Umbrella Revolution of month-long peaceful pro-democracy protests that paralysed much of Hong Kong.

In doing so they challenged Beijing on how Hong Kong should elect its leader.

As a new generation grow up in Hong Kong, so do attitudes change.

A poll by the University of Hong Kong, released in December, found that of around 1,000 people surveyed, 67% identified themselves as Hongkongers or Kongkongers in China, compared with 33% who described themselves as Chinese or Chinese in Hong Kong.  The poll said that those who identified as Chinese or as Citizens of China were in their lowest point since 2008.

I wonder if Australia's attitudes are changing as the next generation communicate their feelings on Australia.

Paul's Perspective

On the Federal Budget

In the days after the Budget, many people asked me for my in-depth opinion. Surely, as the CEO at a free-market think tank, I would have within hours of its release been armed with reams of statistics and graphs, breathlessly announcing relative winners and losers and ready to pronounce a verdict? On the contrary...
