Mannkal's e-Focus

Greetings!

April has passed in a whirlwind for the Mannkal Team and with the days of May quickly ticking by, it looks like yet another busy month ahead! Mannkal released its half-yearly magazine, Mannkal's Musings, in late April to tremendous success. The much-anticipated magazine documents Mannkal's activities over the past 6 months and provides thought-provoking accounts from our scholarship recipients on their international experiences.

In early May, Mannkal was pleased to sponsor 9 students to attend the 3rd Australian Libertarian Society Friedman Conference. The students thoroughly enjoyed the conference describing it as "very well run" with a "good balance of learning and socialising too!" Make sure you look out for the next edition of eFocus, which will be released in early June, to read all about our scholars' experiences.

Paul's Perspective

on Peter Walsh, Wifi & The Potato Marketing Corporation

A couple of weeks ago we hosted an event in memory of the late ALP Finance Minister Peter Walsh, widely heralded as the best Finance Minister Australia has ever had. Walsh was acclaimed for his hard-nosed financial management that left rent-seekers and populists empty handed and earned him the description, "The man who makes Keating look soft". Australian governments today extract more revenue than ever before yet still run deficits! In the spirit of cutting wasteful expenditure, we are starting a column, "What would Peter Say?", that critiques poor government spending of the type that Peter Walsh would have relished rejecting.
