Mannkal's e-Focus
Greetings!,
September marked the passing of one of our favourite economists, Ronald Coase. Known best for his 1937 publication, "Nature of the Firm" and the Coase theorem, Coase remains one of the most influential economists of his time with his teachings continuing to permeate across the globe till this day. We hope that in light of his death, at the age of 102, his work is reflected upon and reconsidered as the world continues to lean towards "a lot of government in a whole lot of things where it doesn't belong".
September was also the time that Australians headed to the polls for what many called Australia's most important Federal Election. With the Liberal Coalition gaining the lead with 91 seats in the House of Representatives, Tony Abbott secured the top spot as Australia's 28th Prime Minister.
Mannkal also said au revoir to an integral member of our team, Senior Fellow Andrew Pickford, as he embarks on a new journey in Canada. Mannkal friends and former interns said goodbye to Andrew at a special function on 17 September. Originally joining to help Ron Manners put together an early Freedom Factory event, Andrew helped grow and administer student internships, which became Mannkal's flagship program. Mannkal's international scholarship program is now sought out by many of the top students in WA.
Reflecting on his time at Mannkal, Andrew commented
"Ron's passion for providing opportunities to students and young Western Australians made my job a simple case of connecting top students with internship opportunities. We do not seek to convert, preach or push a particular world view, but by exposing the next generation to free market thinking, we have given them the tools to improve Australia and the lives of all of its citizens."

Where do you go for a sensible comment on climate change?
The truth about climate change is still a matter of conjecture despite extensive research by experts in the field. What is certain, as IPA's Bob Carter recently commented, is that the public have been continuously misinformed and fed "scientific whoppers"! More > > >
