Mannkal's Focus
Greetings!,
October has been a busy and exciting month for Mannkal. Tom Switzer, Research Associate at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney, gave an insightful presentation on 'The Role of Free Market and Libertarian Ideas in the US 2012 Presidential Election' at our Mannkal/ECOMS Student Dinner. The night was a great success and sparked some interesting debate as the upcoming elections approach next month. For photos from the Student Dinner, please click here.
Mannkal, in conjunction with Murdoch Law School, also held the much anticipated Threats to Freedom of Speech Conference over the 12th and 13th of October. Keynote speaker Chris Berg, Research Fellow at the Institute of Public Affairs, gave a thought provoking presentation and reflected on some of the findings of his book, 'In Defense of Freedom of Speech: from Ancient Greece to Andrew Bolt'.
The other guest speakers, including The Hon. Christian Porter MLA, Professor James Allan from the University of Queensland and Dr Augusto Zimmermann, reflected on the issues of censorship and the threats to freedom of speech in contemporary Australia.
