Student Update

Greetings!,

Our ever-expanding group of Mannkal students and friends has evolved into a great resource of international contacts, from which we can benefit as we travel.

Emma Crisp has recently taken over as Research Assistant, now that Jess Pendal has departed for London, so please liaise with Emma (emma@mannkal.org)  as we invite each of you to visit out office and make use or our facilities, particularly our extensive library where we are well advanced in loading titles and content to our website - click here

Jess Pendal, now as a Mannkal Fellow, will join our other 'London team' of Paul McCarthy and Sarah Basden (both Mannkal Advisory Council members) and hopefully will sample some of the U.K. free-market Think Tanks' activities. Our "man in New York", Luke McGrath is in contact with us, on a daily basis, with regular inputs to our website and Facebook and our sole Dubai Mannkal Scholar, Riyad Hammad, is happy to greet any of you when you visit Dubai.

In conclusion, let me leave you with this interesting link to historian Paul Johnson's recent Forbes article -  Are Universities Worth It? What ought universities to be doing? And are they doing it? I met Paul Johnson some years ago when he was visiting Perth and always enjoy his insightful articles. He raises the interesting question of 'the pursuit of wisdom'.

'Wisdom' is a fascinating concept and I believe it cannot easily be taught at any level of education.  Perhaps wisdom is innate. Could it be something that comes with the deep insight as well as the discernment of personal experience?

Let me close with best wishes for a successful start-up to your academic year and we look forward to seeing you at one of our many events planned for 2011. Please forward this email to anyone who you think may be interested in being part of Mannkal's student database.

p.s.          My wife, Jenny, (a former school teacher and now a Property Conveyancer / Settlement Agent) said to me this morning, "I'd be happy to help any of your Mannkal scholars with a 50% discount on any property settlement that they do."  So please take a note of her offer.  If you ever need a professionally handled property settlement, please call Jenny on 0407 770 688 or email - jenny.manners@mannkal.org and mention Mannkal.
