What are the Gaps in Your Business?
The Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce wants to fill the "gaps" of unmet needs in the Information Technology Industry in the area. The Economic Development Council's IT Subgroup is conducting a survey among local companies that utilize technology heavily. Initial research proves that many IT services are outsourced regionally, nationally or even globally. The Subgroup is made up of Chamber members in the IT field.
Types of IT segments included in the survey are; hardware and software companies, Cloud based companies, digital advertising/marketing agencies, telecommunication and wireless providers as well as local businesses in general. The survey will be sent through Survey Monkey, which will also provide the results.
"The Chamber is pursuing efforts to promote and market the Eastern Shore as an IT environment to live, work and play. The objective of this survey is to identify gaps with regards to our current IT infrastructure and work towards filling those gaps with the purpose of making the Eastern Shore more of a tech savvy place to conduct business", said Haden Giddings, subgroup chairman. "We are reaching out to our valued chamber members to gather this information," he added.
The purpose of the survey is to identify "gaps" in the industry that the Chamber may be able to fill through other resources. Businesses who are interested in sharing their issues with the Chamber may call 928-6387.

Eastern Shore Chamber Eggs N' Issues
Everything You Wanted to Know About Taxes, But were Afraid to Ask!
The Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce has invited L. Ashley Hancock, Alabama Revenue Examiner, to explain the new Optional Network Election for Single Point Online Transactions (ONESPOT) for filing sales, use and rental tax payments. He will be the keynote speaker for Eggs N' Issues, Tuesday, January 14, 2014, 8:30 am at Daphne United Methodist Church Community Life Center, 2401 Main Street in Daphne.
The Alabama State Legislature passed a law that requires the Alabama Department of Revenue to make available to taxpayers an electronic single point of filing for state, county and/or municipal sales, use and rental taxes.
"Mr. Hancock will explain how much easier it is to make your tax payments online," said Darrelyn Bender, president/CEO of the Eastern Shore Chamber. "He will show you where you can go online to get all of your questions answered and who you can call for additional assistance."
Sponsors for the Business Academy Eggs N' Issues for 2014 are: Hartmann, Blackmon & Kilgore, PC; Baldwin EMC; and Daphne Utilities.
The fee for Eggs N' Issues is $10 for members and $15 for potential members. The fee includes a hot breakfast. Reservations must be made by calling 928-6387 or 621-8222.
