"There and Back Again & Beyond: Exploring the Meaning in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit." Presented by author and lecturer Sean McDonough. He explores what makes the journey so compelling, and how it connects with the deeper history of Tolkien's Middle Earth. "The Hobbit becomes a gateway into the life, learning, and faith" of Tolkien, and "far from being an escape from reality, Tolkien's works ... can be seen as an escape to reality."

Understanding Fear, Anxiety and Aggression in Cats & Dogs
Tuesday, Jan. 29, 7-8:30 with professional behaviorist Alana Stevenson. We have all met a dog or cat who has been fearful, aggressive, or reactive. Learn how animals deal with stress. Learn ways to modify aggression, and simple behavior modification techniques to help animals overcome their fears and anxieties using a caring and humane approach. Children's Room
Dads & Donuts Saturday, Jan 12 & Feb. 2, 11-Noon.
Dads & Donuts is a story time designed especially for dads and children ages 2 years & up. (Moms are always invited.) Snacks & coloring will follow 30 minutes of stories! Open to the public at no charge, no registration necessary. January's theme: Star Light, Star Bright; February's theme: Bears.
Amelia Bedelia's turning 50! Join us in celebrating her decades of antics which helped teach generations of children to read. Saturday, January 26, 11-Noon.
Winter Storytimes & Weekly Programs
Registration for storytimes begins on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 10 am. Story classes begin the week of Jan. 21 and continue through the week of March 18. Registration is necessary for: Baby Bookworms, Music & Movement, Terrific 2s & 3s, Rhythm & Rhyme, League of Superheroes, and World of Wizarding programs. These extremely popular programs have limited space and registration must be in person in the Children's Room. Please choose a story time that best suits your child's behavior and readiness. The final schedule of storytimes will be released soon, check the children's room or their blog after the first of the year.

Friday, Jan. 4 from 10:15-Noon. Nancy Rowse, nutrition and wellness coach from Pure Energy Nutrition, covers how to find the food and lifestyle choices that work best for you. She will also offer techniques which help you to make gradual, lifelong changes that enable you to reach your health goals.
Friday, Feb. 1, 10:15-Noon, join us for a presentation on Google Earth. Experience the ultimate armchair travel tool! No computer or computer skills necessary- Dennis shows what Google Earth does and demonstrates some clever features. There will be time to visit places you want to see like the Pyramids, Buckingham Palace, or the house you grew up in. Dennis drives the mouse, all you have to do is enjoy the presentation.

Bridge Lessons

AARP Tax Appointments
Appointments are by reservation only on Wednesdays at 10, 10:45 and 11:30 starting Feb. 1 through April 11. These dates fill up quickly, so gather your paperwork and reserve your slot. You will need to bring all of your tax documents from last year, paperwork for this year, and will be required to show your Social Security card. This service is provided by SeniorCare, Inc.
