Dunham Tool Cartridge Spindle Assemblies: 5C, 16C, 3J Thru Hole Spindle Systems:

Lathes, Grinders, Special Machines:

Dunham Tool's Cartridge Spindle Assemblies are used to build (or retrofit to) Lathes, Cylindrical Grinders, Polishing Machine and many Special Machining, Laser Joining and Assembly Machines.  Please see below for a Dunham CAD Layout Drawing detailing a complete Dunham Cartridge Spindle, Headstock, Pulley and Air Collet Closer Assembly.

Dunham Cartridge Spindle Assemblies are designed and manufactured in 3 'Model' groups, with American Standard Spindle Noses (A2-3, A2-4, A2-5 and A2-6) as well as special Spindle Nose configurations.  Dunham Spindles are designed to directly accept 5C, 2J and 16C and 3J Collets and tooling, as well as optional 1C, 3C and other 'Work Holding' Collet sizes.  While primarily designed and employed as 'Work Holding Spindles' with full 'thru hole' capacities up to 1 3/4", Dunham Spindles are also designed to dircetly accept optional 'Tool Holding' Shank sizes such as Morse Tapers #3, 4, 5, CAT 30, 40, etc..

All Dunham Spindle surfaces employed as 'fixture or tool mounting surfaces' (for Collet, Jaw Chuck, Tool Shank or special fixtures) including American Standard Tapers, diameters and faces are guaranteed for 0.000050" TIR accuracy and repeatability when using Jaw Chucks, Collets, Special Fixture Plates or Tool Holders.

All Dunham Spindle Assemblies are manufactured with rugged, high accuracy angular contact bearings (ABEC 7) which maintain Spindle accuracies of 0.000020" to 0.000050" TIR, and are rated up to 10,000RPM (operating superbly at low or high RPM's).

For very 'high volume' production applications which produce Collet wear, Dunham Spindles can also be equipped with Dunham Collet Chucks with replaceable Dunham 'Collet Noses' which mount directly to the American Standard Spindle Nose.  Or they can be equipped with replaceable Dunham 'Collet Adapters' which insert directly into the Dunham Spindle shaft (for example, via a #5 Morse Taper).

Typically used as 'work holding' spindles (80% of applications), Dunham Spindles are also frequently used as 'tool holding' spindles (20% of applications).

All Dunham Spindle Assemblies produce exceptional, highly accurate performance with high repeatability and durability.  All Dunham Spindle Assemblies are designed for light, medium and heavy machining applications of steel, aluminum, ceramic, powered metal, pressed carbon, phenolic and other traditional and composite materials.  Dunham Spindles can also be equipped with optional Air Purge features to further enhance their durability and longevity when turning, grinding or polishing highly abrasive materials.  As a result of adjustability of Dunham Air Collet/Chuck Closers, the workholding pressure applied to a workpiece is highly adjustable for a wide variety of thin wall, fragile, high surface finish or other special or standard workpieces.

Again, ideal for use (or retrofit) on Lathes, Grinders, Polishing and innumerable Special Machines, Dunham Spindles provide a highly accurate, repeatable, durable and reliable 'work holding' or 'tool holding' Spindle solution for today's demanding manufacturing processes in medical, aerospace, automotive, electronics and other industries.
