Firefighters Compete, You Eat
The historic El Coyote restaurant wants to find the best firefighter salsa in Southern California and they'll crown a victor at the inaugural Firefighter Salsa Competition. Come on down Sunday, Nov. 11, from 11am-4pm, and enjoy street tacos, celebrity judges, a dunk tank, a no host margarita bar and, of course, all kinds of firefighter salsa. Tickets are $30 (or $15 for kids 12 and under). The competition benefits your palate and proceeds benefit the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen's Fund. Buy tickets online now.
Give While You Shop
When you use your Ralphs Rewards card, the company will donate money to Widows & Orphans without costing you anything extra. Follow these simple steps and your weekly shopping run can also help a hero. And don't forget if you've registered in the past, you must re-register every September.
The Most Generous Place On Earth
Disneyland might be the known as the Happiest Place on Earth, but the company that runs the park (and a host of other ventures) recently brought smiles to the faces of firefighter families. Thanks to its VoluntEARS program, Disney employee Beth Ryan earned a donation for the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen's Fund based on the number of hours she volunteered throughout the year. She also got the charity qualified for Disney's "employee matching" program, in which the company matches donations made by its employees. Does your company have similar programs? If so, you could make your gift of time, money or services to help firefighters and their families go even further. For assistance getting WODFF signed up at your company, contact Marlene Casillas at mcasillas@wodff.org.
