You 'N-I (Youth Network Initiative) is Taking Shape.
On January 14th the first of a long-term large-scale series of meetings
addressing youth homelessness and foster care will be convened in Reno.
Participating will be community stakeholders who care about young people ages 12 to 24 who are homeless,in foster care, or aging out of foster care. We expect school officials, social workers, nonprofit staff working on the streets and clergy involved in outreach to contribute to the conversation. In addition, and perhaps most importantly, young people who are homeless, or who have been homeless are invited to discuss potential ideas, causes, and solutions.
Helping youth ages 12-24 is a critical challenge that also presents the community with a great opportunity for significant impact.
By uniting people, institutions and resources from throughout the community through the Youth Network Initiative (You'N-I), we hope to produce significant, widely shared, and lasting results.
The Community Foundation of Western Nevada will serve the role of convener, ensuring the opportunity to participate to all stakeholders, with a fundamental commitment to diverse participation and fairness in a process that is respectful and transparent. The Foundation has been working regularly with a Steering Committee of committed stakeholders including young people since October to organize this first large scale community convening.
If you have something to offer on the topic of youth homelessness and would like to be included in the January 14 discussion please call 775-333-5499 and ask for details.

Compassion in Action Shows You Care
The Foundation staff were heartened by our community's response to the SMS Compassion Fund.
![SMS COmpassion Fund](http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs122/1103137520884/img/323.jpg?a=1115760790128) Donations came to the office in coins, dollar bills, and checks of all sizes. Grants to the victims of the Sparks Middle School shooting have been distributed in a timely manner, which will help with victims' immediate needs.
One noteworthy and memorable contribution that passed from desk to desk in our office was a $10.00 check from Jessie Beck Elementary School PFA. Student Sophia Nebesky returned her prize money from the 2013 Jessie Beck Scarecrow Festival and asked that it be donated to the fund.
The Renown Health Foundation established an immediate response fund to ![](http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs122/1103137520884/img/354.jpg?a=1115760790128) aid after Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines on the 8th of November. A sizable percentage of Renown Health Systems employees have family or friends in the affected area. Contributions to the Renown Health Philippine Aid Fund were conveniently made by credit card through the Foundation website. |

Reno Advocate Joins Community Foundation
| Lyndsey Crossley, Executive Assistant |
Lyndsey Crossley is the person behind the cheerful voice answering your phone calls. As Executive Assistant she works closely with Chris Askin, CEO, attending Board and Committee meetings, and working on the community-wide You'N-I initiative addressing youth homelessness.
Lyndsey is from a gold mining family. During her childhood she lived in Tooele, Utah; then she spent much of her teen years in Spring Creek, Nevada. Her roots run deep, and she collects rocks and sand as tokens of her travels.
A 2007 graduate of University of Nevada, Reno, she is a Wolfpack football fan and a passionate advocate for our region.
Lyndsey appreciates much of what Reno has to offer its residents. A former employee of Sierra Arts Foundation, she will be found at local art galleries and museum openings. As a young girl who grew up dancing, she loves music. Lyndsey makes sure to take full advantage of the extensive concert schedule and line-up of local bands playing in venues throughout Reno and Sparks.
"People don't always realize how lucky we are in Reno."
"I'm honored to be a part of the Community Foundation, and I very much look forward to helping ensure that Reno continues to thrive."
