100% Giving Board Award 2012

I am Looking for 100 Special Nonprofits!

It's that time of year again - - time to recognize your organization's Board of Directors for their financial support!

Did 100% of your board make a personal financial gift to your organization between November 2012 and November 5, 2013?

If so, your organization qualifies for The 100 Percent Club. This award recognizes boards that support their agencies with 100% financial participation through personal giving!

We know nonprofits work very close to the budget line to offer their fantastic programs and services. And your Board of Directors also knows how hard you work. Now more than ever your Board's financial gifts to your organization make your work possible. Give them the recognition they have earned with their monetary gifts to your nonprofit!

The linked nomination form is easy to fill out. . Complete it and send it back to me by November 5. Your organization and Board will then get all sorts of press for achieving this coveted recognition. Only 70 nonprofits in western Nevada claimed this recognition last year. I want 100 to be awarded 100% Board Giving for 2013!

Your organization will be recognized  at the AFP Conrerstone Luncheon on November 15.  We will send you a logo for your website and give you a certificate for your office. Come on! What are you waiting for ?!

Reach out with compassion and solidarity. Give to
the SMS Compassion Fund.

SMS Compassion Fund Helps our Sparks Middle School Family

It has been a difficult week but Community Foundation staff are comforted by the outpouring of empathy and support for Sparks Middle School. If nothing else, these sad days make clear that we need each other.

Businesses are organizing fundraisers ranging from collection baskets to sales event donations and a Reno Aces baseball shagging day. Two Sparks Middle School students are coping by making and passing out solidarity ribbons. Both the UNLV and UNR teams will played last weekend with "SMS Compassion" emblazoned on their helmets. Residents from surrounding communities attended church and community candlelight vigils. Facebook posts remember with respect and affection Sparks Middle School math teacher, Mr. Michael Landsberry. Each action reminds us of our connections with our neighbors - within walking distance or not.

The SMS Compassion fund comforts everyone it touches. The Sparks Middle School students, families, faculty and staff will receive help. Compassionate donors to the fund feel a little better after giving because they know they are doing what they can in a difficult situation to make things easier. The Community Foundation staff feel better knowing that we are contributing our skills where they are needed.

Donations are streaming in from our website, nevadafund.org
in amounts ranging from a $2 and $3 to hundreds of dollars. Some of the gifts are from empathic people across the nation; most are from neighbors closerto home. The Foundation is not charging an administrative fee to manage the fund and supervise its grants. Grants from the SMS Compassion Fund will be recommended by representatives of Washoe County Schools and the City of Sparks.

It is our honor to acknowledge every gift that comes directly to the Community Foundation through the website, in the mail or through the front door. It is what we can and want to do to help. Administering immediate response funds like SMS Compassion Fund is one reason for the Foundation's existence and our way of serving you.

Working together helps us to connect, strengthen bonds and build community. Grieving and giving together strengthens and comforts us. As the days pass, remember to continue to reach out with kindness and help when you can.
