Adult Scholarships Help Raise the Quality of Life
for our entire Community.
Consider the possibilities for our community and our economy if under-employed adults in northern Nevada had the opportunity to apply for financial support to achieve a certificate or degree (or just upgrade their skills) that would help them secure a higher-waged job.

Consider the impact in the long term on their families if that educational boost allowed them to have greater independence and less dependence on community resources.

Foundation Fundholders Invest in
Nevada Youth Empowerment Project.

Students living at NYEP and students from UNR volunteer to clean up a Truckee River park.

Recently two large grants from donor-advised funds were mailed to Nevada Youth Empowerment Project in support of their efforts to help teen and young adult women who may otherwise be homeless. NYEP is a small nonprofit working with a handful of women at time. These young women are referred to NYEP by their social worker, parole officer, or teacher as a place to live and learn how to be successful adults. For some of the students in the program it is their first chance to have a close and positive relationship with an adult mentor.

" I appreciate the generosity of the fundholders and their support of the Challenge grant made to our Community Living Program. We reached our goal! This assistance means so much to us -  the staff,
but even more to the young women who benefit from the program."

- Monica DuPea Executive Director

Life under NYEP Community Living Program's rules is not easy, but the responsibilities and expectations are clear and there is support at every turn. Students are encouraged to reach their education goals, work part-time and volunteer to help others. In addition they are responsible for the home and garden up-keep, for learning life skills such as money management, healthy living, cooking and shopping skills. They also work on job seeking and social skills such as etiquette, typing, and positively interacting among a group.

NYEP's Community Living Program gives young women: a home, comprehensive skill building, community involvement in a meaningful way and a stable relationship with a caring adult. It is a formula that works and they have the statistics to prove it.  We encourage you to learn more about Nevada Youth Empowerment Project.

NV Dream Tag Proceeds Sowing Seeds of Sustenance.

Aerial Reseeding in Elko NV
Reseeding efforts outside of Elko, NV.

What looks like an Antartic experiment is a reseeding project in the Nevada High Desert paid for, in part by the proceeds of the NV Dream Tag sales in 2012.

$5.00 chances helped turn $50,000 into much more to buy seed.

The NV Dream Tag fund awarded $50,000 to the Nevada Department of Wildlife to use as needed match money for a much larger reseeding project. NDOW planted the seeds on public lands burned in 2012 wildfires that scorched more than 600,000 acres. Land that is home to our state's wildlife.

Reseeding will help restore areas where primarily sage grouse and mule deer are established and suffering from habitat damage. Seeds were applied through aerial drops and drill seeding efforts.

Partnership Grants Logo Partnership Grant Cycle
 Begins in June.

Invitations to submit a 2013 Grant Letter of Intent will be mailed to northern Nevada nonprofit organizations at the end of June 2013.  The LOI will be due to the Community Foundation in mid-July. Invited proposals must be received in August and the grants will be decided upon in September.

The switch from Spring to Fall grant cycle was initiated in order to compile the Community Foundation donor advised funds investment earnings for the previous year. Some fundholders donate their fund's earnings or a portion of the earnings to the Partnership Grant Program.

If your favorite nonprofit organization is more than 5 years in existence and  has not received an invitation to submit a letter of intent in the past, please email Dani Lutzow with your organization's name and full contact information.
